4x4 Engine Cradle
OK, one more question. I assumed that the engine cradle would be different for a 6 banger but upon comparing it with my v8 4x4 they look the same. The 6 just has some more bracketry attached. Does anyone know if there are any differences? It will be nice if I don't have to change it. Thanks in advance...

i think they are diffrent, my 68 was a factory 6 banger truck and now has a 327 in it, it sits WAY FAR up against the firewall, even closer than they do factory..... my MSDs plug wires rub against the firewall........

68SWB4x4,
So do you think it is related to the position of the crossmember between the frame rails or a difference in the crossmember itself? |

I thought about your answer a little more and I guess that you answered my real question. Can I bolt a V8 in the place of a 6 banger without putting in a different cradle. It sounds like you did? |
My HEI is right up against the firewall too. The truck was originally a 307 (now a 350) The plug wires are milimeters away from the firewall.

yes you can, but not if it had a 292, if it had a 250 you can, i didnt do the swap but the owner before me did........
ive compared my trucks engine position to factory 4x4 v8 trucks and its a good 1 1/2-2"s further back and the factory v8 4x4s sit pretty far back themselves...... |
Thanks :)
