After Market A/C
 

Hi all,

I'm on the fence about adding an aftermarket A/C kit to my non AC truck. I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible, and combined with the cost and cutting the dash, it has me thinking. But it's just A/C so maybe I'm overthinking this. Worthwhile upgrade? Thanks in advance.

I am not on the fence. Gonna do it on this build. Sorta depends on how good your heat works. Then maybe you woud be as well off with an underdash unit so you wouldn't have to slice your dash. That is how I look at it. But the aftermarket heat/air is nice too.

I just did mine with a vintage air unit. Ended up being easier than I imagined. I was worried about cutting the dash too, but took about an hour and it was done. Looks stock to the uninformed (outer vent balls and housings look different), but I'm happy with it.

With our short Alberta Summers I too have wrestled with an A/C installation. Trying not to cut up a very original truck but still adding what I want to make it driveable. I have looked for some time for an under dash unit. Picked this one up in Portland and hope to have it installed by next Summer.

Yes. There are a couple of "direct fit" vendors, likely either would be fine.

I like the vintage air unit. Have used it on a couple of trucks. Looks relatively stock once installed.

"Global warming" getting to you guys up there? :lol: I also frequent a wood working forum, where one of the guys has a signature that says, "Alaskans for global warming". All kidding aside, I like the looks of the kit that looks stock. I've installed AC into vehicles I owned in the past from wrecking yard parts (I was po, what can I say?). But they all were hung below the dash and usually interfered with the foot room.
