B 52 Death wobble

Hey y'all i recently put 52s up front with the diy4x spring kit and ever since i did I've got a gnarly death wobble, made sure everything is tight 3 and 4 times set toe in toe out all new steering components and ball joints in front axle. i just put some shims in it flipped tires left to right and seemed to help but still have a death wobble after i hit a bump. I'm going to try and run a stabilizer to help but was wondering if any of y'all who've done the swap have run into anything similar.

You probably need a panhard bar on the front,You can get one from http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/cgi...=CHEVY-APB-002

You have something loose in the steering. A stabilizer will only bandaid the situation some. Do yourself a favor and check the front end out It is a 2 person job.

Do you have stock steering or did you upgrade to cross over steering?

Ive been over every nut and bolt in the steering 3 and 4 times with an impact making sure its tight. I don't see how it could still be the problem.

What size of tires are you running? And at what speeds are you getting the death wobble? From my personal experience a steering stabilizer is a must

There 315 I believe idk goofy ass metric size. its like a 34 or 35. I got the tires off another truck but they have hella wheel weights on each tire. I wonder if that's part of it. I get the wobble at like 35 plus its odd sometimes it will shake it loose and I have to slam on the brakes to get it to stop gotta come to almost a stop and it will be good again.

Its not the nuts and bolts. It is the ball and socket joints in the linkage. Thats why you need a 2nd person. One on the steering wheel and one under the truck watching and feeling each joint to see which one(s) are loose.

could be your tires. i run 38" toyo radials on my crew, no problems what-so-ever. when i throw my bias swamps on, i get d.wobble at 30mph. if i stay at 30, it gets knarly & have to almost stop. if i speed up a bit or slow down a bit, no problems-just can't drive at a steady 30. my steering gear is all new, kingpins done couple yrs ago, caster is bang on, dual s.stabilizers. only does it with the swamps. took them into the tire shop, he flipped them on the rims & added some weights...
Attachment 1361929

their a little better, it takes longer for it to DW at a steady 30 now, & does not get out of control when it does. one day i mite ditch all the lead & give Dyna Beads a try....

I hope you mean 2.5 degree shim.

you need to get a real number for caster. that may well be all of the problem. steering stabilizers are a must. they are there for a reason. they dont fix problems but they do dampen cyclic motion and that helps keep death wobble from starting. that is why they are there from the get go. as a valid part of the steering system.

death wobble wont be fixed with a track bar, but it is a good idea.

what axle are you running? sounds like a 10b or d44, the caster needs to be in the 5-8ish range positive for those. more or less than that can give you death wobble. crappy balance on the tires wont help it either.

Just find any shop that can get your truck on a rack and do a alignment. They will be able to tell you what your thrush angle and caster actually are. Then you can change shackle length or if pinion angles allow bolt a shim into the spring pack to correct your caster. .

they must be 2.5 they were marked 25 but they are real small and thin my friend says he has 6 degree shims he will give me they came off his 1 ton yota. stabilizers are on there way. is there some one that make a track bar for the truck or am I gonna be fabbing one up? I have a 10 bolt in it right now with a chevy 60 in the garage just slowly going threw it this 10 bolt was just gone through hub to hub so will probably run it till I blow it up

Re: B 52 Death wobble

What year truck is this on? The longer leaf causes lift, even if it's a stock spring. This also tilts axle nose-down. On a pre-73 it's more drastic and with any lift it could be more. I am 99% sure it's a caster/camber issue you need to get right. Getting a reading at a shop is bst, but you know what the issue is and you have 6 dg. shims and 2.5 deg. helped. try the 6 drg. and if that doesn't get it right, put it on a rack.

Re: B 52 Death wobble

Ive used dyna beads (internal balancing weights) before with good success. As the tread wears there is no need to rebalance and loosing weights due to rock rash was no longer a problem

this is almost certainly the issue. DIY4x also has a shim set for the caster correction. i have 6* shims up front to fix that. caster should be set between 4 and 6 degrees tilted back. or a general rule of thumb is the spring perch at 0*.
