Is that coated aluminum? If so can you trim the left side to match the hood peak for lining it up. Or do you set up the right side first, drilling the holes for the R on both sides and locate off the left R stud.

Actually it is steel sheet metal.
I had first planned aluminum and a lot more detail .
Yes the right side is the set up.
This locates the Most important/ R that is in the middle.
The Twist drills required are #24 (0.152) & #29 (0.136)
The right has scribe mark for alignment.
The left needed trimming for the (relief) to match.
That is just the Ruff phase.
I got 1 more Trick I hope to get this tweeked this week.

Number 24 drill for big holes on left
and number 29 for locating holes on the right.

I’m putting the Chevrolet letters on my current 68 gmc hood, I didn’t order the letters yet, probably will do that this week.

I was wondering
with you using your GMC hood
Do you need the template for
the big holes in back to install the nuts?
Or will you drill thru and then
drill the holes bigger?

I am drilling all the way through with a long bit then opening the holes on the back with a larger bit.

Your Welcome
From my experience working at a tool and die shop
and working with stamping dies for several years.
I noticed something about the alignment.
If you get the holes drilled correctly,
the Top of the letters will line up
2 inches above the crease line
that is closest to the letters.
If you notice the tape I left on it.
A 2 inch piece of clear tape aligned with the bottom crease.
The 1 inch piece of tape even with the top of
the 2 inch tape.
