Is this a cab/chassis?

I ran across this pic on CL. The ad says it's a 1988. http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps753c50af.jpg Is this a standard bed on a cab/chassis dually? I know the cab/chassis rear end is narrower. I like the dually without the fenders sticking out a foot. Are the wheel wells tubbed? Tom |

To me that looks like a C&C with a pickup bed.
Couldn't tell you if it's tubbed, by eyeball a pickup bed may fit with some trimming, just don't haul anything heavier than a bag of chips. I don't remember who it was, but I do remember a thread putting a pickup bed on one. Think someone did it by tubbing, another with a small body lift. If your interested, contact the seller and see how he did it. |

I did talk to the seller, he doesn't know much about the truck.
His relative bought it that way quite a few years ago. He did say he thought it was a "new" bed at some point. It's an hour and a half away, I may still go eyeball it. The reason I ask, is I have an 84 cab/chassis myself. ( former Fire Department vehicle). It had the fire equipment taken off and now has a commercial flat bed that is too wide. The flat bed is 8 ft square! I bet it weighs 1500 pounds with the rear bumper, etc. I would like to put a nice stock long bed on it. Tom |

I would say it was a standard SRW 1 ton with a 8 foot fleetside bed from the factory, and a C&C rear end was swapped into it.
It could be a C&C frame, but from what I understand those didn't come in wheelbases that would suit an 8 foot bed. The closest wheel base will leave a gap of several inches between the bed and cab, if you were to install an 8 foot bed on a C&C which would require frame shortening. There was someone here awhile back that posted about this problem. |

Beyond the differences in rearend width, cab and chassis trucks have different frame rails than dually trucks did. You can't just bolt a bed in place without fabrication. Look closely under the truck and see if the fab work is up to a standard that pleases you. I'd hate to see you buy it then climb under there and find a bunch of rusty angle iron and bubble gum welded bracketry that you had to redo anyway.

I may be the one they are referring to above. I bought a 161.5 WB C&C and built a super long bed, 10.5 foot box. These 2 threads my help you with identification and/or ideas. It really wasn't hard to do.

Other than a little slower to get up to speed it didn't know it had a load. The dually makes a HUGE difference with pulling a load. Good luck. |

It looks like a cab and chassis rear end under it.As tall as the truck is i doubt they tubbed the rear wheel wells on it.

I didn't experience any frame difference with mine, other than the length. I had to cut about 3.5 inches off the back of the frame to allow the wheel wells to sit over the tires properly but I simply marked and drilled my holes in the frame. There were no brackets required the frame was squarely under the holes pretty much dead center. The rear tires would NOT sit in the stock wheel housings with mine, it might be different with a 4WD with a higher rear stance but on my 2WD suspension I had to move them in 3 inches as shown in my thread, yes a body lift would have done it but I am not a fan of those much less a 4 or 5 inch to clear the tires.

theres only two crewcab frames. 2wd or 4wd. cc uses a standard frame on a crew.

I just bought a 1 ton truck (reg cab, 8’ bed) to take the bed off and put on my 1 ton (R30).
Ill take the RR suspension and housing plus front A arms and spindles and put everything on my Crew cab R30. I measured from back of cre cab cab to center of axle on both trucks and its 55” in both trucks. Now to do the swap..... ohh lord! As if i didnt have enough work already! Then itll need body work and paint. Wheels and tires... then interior! And i still need to finish the race car and work on the house.... did i mention 3 girls?? And the wife... but dont forget the 3 dogs!!! Oh well. One at a time. Rant over. :metal: Lead, out. |

Is there a way i can fit 35’s on my stock 2WD chassis CC? If not whats the max size commonly run on stock steelies?

C&c axle should have a 63” wheel mount surface-wheel mount surface. They can be converted to SRW using hubs and brakes off a factory srw 14 bolt. Iirc the housings are the same and axleshafts, only breaks and hubs. It may be easier than doing a full axle swap and having to cut/weld/swap complete rear axle. I’m not sure but with the difference in frame widths I would think the spring perches would be different dimension. There is an excellent write up on the 14 bolt on pirate4x4.com called the 14 bolt bible. Good luck
