what kind of 454 engine do I have in my sub79?
Good Morning y'all ...
I got a 1979 Suburban with this datas: Chevrolet Suburban 1979, TH 400, 2WD, 7,4 ltr (GM CORPORATE 14-BOLT) CARBURATOR: 17059520 / 1449 CCP VIN: TCS269F528860 this means: T - GMC C - Serie S - 7,4 Liter - 4BBL Carburator - 2 - 3/4 ton 6 - Suburban 9 - last digit of model year (1979) F - PlantCode (Chevrolet Flint) 528860 - Production Sequence Number I am looking for some infos to my engine: I assume, it is a 90degree V8 engine ... but its material ... is it cast iron? --------------- to be clear, I have read heaps of infos at the web but I need the datas for my 1979 modell as accurately as possible. --------------- The head material is also cast iron, isNt it? regarding the valves: do I have 2 push rods? The crank is also made with cast iron? The conrods and pistons also cast iron? Or heavy duty cast? I have no idea what datas I should use for the "variant capacity" please look to the "variantcapacity.png" ... are these values ok? I have the same question to compression and cam profile datas, please see the attachment called "compression_and_camprofil.pnge" My last question is regarding the mixture and ingntion settings, please have a look to "fuel_and_mixture.png". It would be very great to get answers ... also a good link to these special questions would be nice. I am sorry for my poor english! I wish you a nice sunday! Stef Stef |

You should always check the casting codes on the block then go from there. My 1979 2wd Suburban looked to have a original 454, but running the block codes and the suffix codes says its a 1970 402.
