Turn indicators

The turn indicators on my'68 do not self cancel or make a clicking noise while on.
Are they supposed to have an audible clicking noise while illuminated?
The lights on the dash flash as well as the tail turn lights.

Sounds like replacing the turn signal switch is in order..?

Re: Turn indicators

What dash lights flash with the turn signals?? Weird electrical issues of that nature are almost always due to a bad ground connection.. Under any event, we need more information on that one..

The lack of "a clicking sound" is not in itself, indicative of a defective turn signal switch.. The sound is generated by the turn signal flasher located in the fuse box.. Some previous owner might have made some circuit repairs and remote mounted the flasher unit.. If this is the case, attach the flasher to a metal bracket or other metal object under the dash.. You'll then be able to hear the "clicking sound"..

If the turn signals all blink as they should, but the turn signal switch doesn't cancel, you MAY have a defective switch, but before you run out and buy a new switch, remove the steering wheel and check the canceling cam.. It could be the culprit..

Thanks, The turn Indicator arrows flash, but the flasher unit makes no clicking noise.
They dont self cancel. Must be the canceling cam..

Your cancel cam springs might be broken or missing. That would keep it from cancelling.....

You may not need the flat spring. You should be able to get them from your local auto parts store.
