I’d like to swap 84 4X4 frame with 81 2X4 body, easy?
 

Looking for advise on a potential body swap I’d like to do. Had both of these trucks (with titles) sitting around for some time.

The 84 has a rust free trashed body but a great 54,000 mile, 350/400? running drive train.

The 1981 is a rust free 2 wheel drive 454/400 that are gone.

My question, is this a straight up swap? No modifications?

fairly straight forward .

biggest thing is in some 2wd had low floor hump depending on trans used .

4x4 = high hump .

but I have a few 2wd body's on my 4x4 frames . just had to do a small body lift to clear the 2wd low hump floor pan .

1 I did years ago I did a 2" body lift . I am doing another now and going to try a 1" body lift .

otherwise its a fairly basic swap over .

If you don't want to use a body lift, the hump is very easy/straightforward to cut out of the 4x4 cab and drill/weld into the 2wd cab. I'm in the process of a 2x4 to 4x4 body swap myself.

I am hoping to do this swap this year. I planned to do the 2" body lift and not cut the floor too much. Do you think 1" will work? I hope so. I would rather do that if it's feasible.

you will find out in a few weeks .

i am hoping to strip the old truck this weekend and start the mock up of the new 1ton 4x4 frame and then test fit the body after that .

i will be using a th400 but am doing a offroad design doubler kit 203 range box and full 205 t-case . so if it clears my combo then you will be just fine.

just cut the cab off the old plow truck . it was a 87 2wd solid floor pan style on a 79k30 frame.

the trans/t-case was a th400/round pattern np205 . bottom of bell housing i had 2" to floor pan . and front face top of t-case i had 3" of room to bottom of floor pan .

this was measured with the 2" body lift removed 100% . only sitting on energy suspension body bushing kit .

i took a few pics and will post up tonight for you .

Be aware though, not cutting floor or using body lift is going to make getting to those extremely difficult once together.

In other news, I'm hoping to have my body on the 4x4 frame this week!

only other problem i for see is the shifter mounting & height for the 208 or 241 transfer case if thats the style you have .

if its a 205 then same as mine but 1 lever .

Just wondering how the swap went (or coming along) for the above guys doing it? I’m painfully slow in getting this done. Of all the priority projects going on, this one is kinda low on the list :(

I did one recently. I did a 1" body lift and I cut out the hole and put a removable 4x4 hump. Made removing the trans later on really easy.

Not really. I probably wont have the trans put back in for a month but I can get pictures then.
