2wd to 4wd 1 ton conversion

I am new to the forum and with a little looking I have found several posted pics of 4X4 1 ton duallys. Since the 4X4 1 ton dually did not make its appearance until somewhere around 1976 or 1977, I am curious how these conversions are done. Is it easier to do a complete frame swap or is it easier to do a front drive axle install? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 2wd to 4wd 1 ton conversion

My buddy has a 1970 1 ton that he converted to 4wd. He had a donor 3/4 ton 4wd and swapped parts over so the front axle was a Dana 44 not a Dana 60. He said the conversion wasn't too bad since he had both vehicles there to confirm where he needed to put stuff. He has a Dana 60 front axle and a Dana 70 rear axle he's gonna swap in when time allows so it will be a true 1 ton 4wd when that is done.

Thanks Yukon Jack. Which years of Dana 60 and Dana 70 are used for this conversion.

Thanks Again
