I want to swap leafs to coils need a little advice

I have a 72 c20 and it currently has leafs in the rear, i want to switch to coil style rear end to make it easier to add air ride, i can easily run the trailing arms and air bags but i need an 8 lug axel that is set up for the OEM 2link set up and track bar. Just dont know what year model would have that in 8lug

Any positive comments are welcome

GM brought the coil-sprung suspension in the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks to market with the 1960 models. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but the '60-72's should have the possibility of having the rear end you want, set up for coils. Chevy more so than GMC, but either can have coils or leaf. On Chevy, it was an option.

I have an interchange book that I got at a bookstore, but my wife moved it....

Re: I want to swap leafs to coils need a little advice

I think that the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trailing arm set up is the same so finding all the components less the rearend should be no problem.

I have a 72 3/4 ton with the trailing arms, I will look at it and see if I notice any significant difference between 1/2 and 3/4 parts.

Now I have been contemplating removing the trailing arm suspension and to go to leaf springs on it, but that is just a sometime project.

I'll think about if I will want to sell the trailing arm rearend.

And yes it was available through all the years. I call the trailing arm suspension on the 3/4 ton as a light duty 3/4 ton, the leaf spring can cary more weight.

60-72 may have had the same style suspension but the parts do not interchange. I had a 60 and tried to shove a 67-72 12 bolt under it. The perches were in a different location. Something with the trackbar was also different but I can not remember what it was. This was all 15 years ago.

I have a 70 C20 rolling chassis that has the coil set up and factory 3/4 ton rear end in it that i cannot even give away. Too bad you arent closer you could come haul it off before i have to send it to scrap

I don't see any significant difference in the trailing arms and attaching brackets between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. So your big deal is the rearend.

You live close by, and I am willing to discuss trading or selling my rearend.
