I found a place to the west of KC that has a booth you can rent. It comes with all the equipment you need except for the paint of course. $150 for 24 hours.

that's cheap enough....what type of booth is it airflow wise? and does it have heat?...
I thought I had options of 2 diff private booths lined up to paint mine and both have fell through..
Ive been doing driveway paint jobs, but I'm not doing show car paint jobs either

I bought a garage carport from Harbor Freight and put down a big tarp and painted in my driveway.

It was nice because I could paint early in the morning then leave all the parts in the tent all day to dry. Then I would clean up the next day.

Here's the info. I took my hood, 2 doors, 2 front fenders to the blasting place yesterday. I was hoping he would do the rest of the truck but he said all the pieces have to come off. For me, taking the cab off is daunting.

ground helps eliminate static electricity ive been told....ive never used one though

Yeah the static electricity poles Lint and dust that’s in the air to what you’re painting but it doesn’t do anything for mosquitoes or flies painting outside with one of those Open sided car covers early in the morning when the air is calm works very well it’s called a 360 crossflow lets the natural movement of the air get rid of the overspray

I've had good results with many scenarios, both enclosed and open, professional and home-made. Weather and wind are the unpredictable factors in outdoor jobs. Bugs too if there are a bunch in your area.
Then comes the most threatening obstacle of all, neighbors. By far. Complaints about smells, environmental concerns, health issues, etc., not to mention paint drift. Oh my word on paint drift and overspray on their cars and stuff. The problem list can get out of hand fast if you have the wrong neighbor.
I say rent a booth if at all possible, and avoid most all that.
But having said that, if you live in the country and have the space, and the people next door are not insane and they love you, it's quite possible to get it done right, right there in your driveway.

Yes, those shelters help a lot. If you use one like that, you'll need to set up an exhaust fan at one end to clear the air inside. I suggest aiming the exhaust air outside through a falling cascade of water created by a hose-end sprinkler. That'll help wash the exiting air of paint particles. Pro paint booths are set up like this.

that's pretty neat Joe ..havnt seen those before...no mention of how tall it is though and from the pics of it with a truck inside it doesn't look like itd have much headroom over it

My plan ( should I ever get that far) is to set up the center roll up door section in my shop as a temporary booth. I can separate it with some plastic and that also puts the exhaust fan in the closed in area.

I'm so far from that right now it's just a rough plan but one I think I can make work. I've seen guys do pretty good work in much worse spaces. Given I am not building a show truck or anything near it I think I might be able to lay down a decent job. Back in my late teens and early twenties I was a decent painter. Hope I still have some of that skill.

I just purchased a decent HVLP gun and some epoxy primer so I can seal up the parts I am going to start stripping when someone finally closes the door to hell here in the south and summer becomes fall.

I have a carport that my 68 IH is in. The openings are North, East and West. I can cover those ends and the top and I think that should be fine. I'm shooting on Saturday, 1st time!
