Seat spring available?

Im rebuilding the bench for my C30. Got new foam and a fancy new cover. Too bad I have a couple of broken springs =(

I need a right and a left side of the spring in this pic. If you know of anyone that supplies new springs could you let me in on the secret?

Full foam lower bench seat 71/72 style ... Thanks!

Go to a Auto Upholstery shop near you, they can make one for you.

I would like to know a source for these. Not too sure just any old upholstery shop can or will make these. Maybe if they get your whole seat job. But I know many shops will tell you go find some

Re: Seat spring available?

The helper springs on each end of the bench seat are almost always broken. My upholstery shop sells torsion springs which worked great. Get a couple of sizes, if unsure, as they only cost a few bucks each. Someone posted a pic of the torsion springs in use...do a search.

Title of thread here, Seat spring replacement. AstroBalls has link to Bills Truck Shop. Although its in Canada. USA1 Industries also.
Keep us posted. I need to do some of same repairs...

About a month ago, I tried to buy the replacement spring from USA1 and it was on backorder for a LONG time. I think the torsion springs work better and will last longer.

Re: Seat spring available?

I pulled out my seat and took to the upholstery shop on June 2nd and then proceeded to install sound deadener and new carpet. Upholstery shop called after taking apart and sent pictures of gorgeous springs except the broken "helper spring". They ordered from USA1 and to date they're still back ordered. After calling around June 11th to find out when they'd get them, USA1 said "unknown, but it'll be a while" so I decided to go with the torsion spring. Looks good installed, seems like a great solution, however, it over compensates and when you sit on the seat it feels like I have a racquetball pressing in my thigh. Upholstery shop agreed and will redo when the correct spring from USA1 arrives. Moral of the story, wait for the right part.

Re: Seat spring available?

I had the same issue. I had asked USA1 back in March and they didn't have any idea when they might be available.
So I went to a local upholstery shop to see about getting one made and they asked if I had a vice and a pair of vice grips, if so then I could make my own. Then they gave me some "S" spring and i bent myself a new one. I put some photos on the link at post 668.
You may not get a free spring like I did but, it was easy and now its done.

I was going to make my own as well, but I had to buy a roll of the S spring material for $40. The Torsion springs were less than $2 each. My seat feels fine.

Bills Truck Shop has the springs available. He is in The Great White North, but can ship to the US. Really good service.

Re: Seat spring available?

I’ve seen torsion springs before but I had no idea what they were called. I have an extra seat I can tear apart and take one of those flat zig zaggy springs from and bend it to shape. I was thinking you couldn’t bend a spring from how it was built without messing it up somehow ... the springy-ness?

He seems to pop on and off the board sporadically. Almost two weeks since his last log in. He's pretty good about chiming in on upholstery threads. Maybe he will be fore I figure it out myself.

The sand blast place just called and they have all my parts ready to go. Not bad considering it was supposed to be done this coming Friday.

Maybe get some rounded spring stock and live with it or experiment and beat on it?

I haven't been on the board much lately ,We have a family member that has just been approved for Hospice and the family has been taking care of him up to this point .

These should work and I have the spring clips I'll send you . I have some extra parts seat frames ,I'll try to take a look and see if I have some good original extra springs . :chevy:
