Scrap value alone is about $400-$500. So you're getting all that for really, $500-$600. Sounds like a good deal.

Scrap is $30/T so more like $200 max. I'm finding some prices are starting to drop again for the rust buckets as they are usually in line with scrap prices in my market. $500 on that truck is ok, not much more due to rust though.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

I think it's a good deal by itself because of the low scrap value. Here in Alabama scrap yards are paying between $3-4 a hundred so that is $108-144 for a 3600 lb truck.

Interesting....that's an awful lot of labor cost built into that asking price. Given the cost of paint jobs/restorations etc etc, he's not totally unreasonable. Have seen worse for much more. If I was close, would certainly set an appointment w/the guy to check it out.

Labor cost, he claims its original ?

Agree. If one was to buy a truck in a condition that is less than that one, it would require a significant cost in labor to make it look like that.

I am always amazed how many trucks there are for sale and the condition when I look outside of road salt New England (NC, Texas, CA, AZ, etc).

Here is an example of the trucks (Sub 5k) I am seeing as I have been looking for the last year:

http://worcester.craigslist.org/cto/5403892827.html

I think it's better to buy out west and drive or ship back to my neck of the woods.

I left the New Bedford area in 1982 and headed out west to Fort Sill, OK...never made it back. I'd like to haul a couple of mine up there to sell, but its a long trip even w/a nice truck and trailer. Gave $3K for this one about 18 months ago. Had to do a ton of sanding/buffing/waxing, but it is a solid as a rock. We have our share of rusty trucks down here too, but not like in New England. We can fix ours; yours have turned to dust!!

No outside mirrors, were they an option in 1970?

Thanks Dale. That SPID request email will go straight to the recycle bin! Ha. Still, not bad for the price. I'm partial to these C20 CustomDs for some reason...

No problem, when I spotted it was at a motorcycle shop. It looked like they were hauling scrap with it. I asked and was told not for sale. That was over a year ago and my memory is not the best. So lok at spid just in case. Lol

I was interested in this truck but no after the owner went up in price. That is always a deal killer to me. He's now wanting $3,200.

Your probably right Scott. I texted the seller this morning and he said he had someone coming to look at it at noon. I asked him to let me know if it sold and he just texted and said it was sold.

Maybe not as the price was normal for this area. If anything it'll go down south or back east to flip. I don't recall anything special about that truck or price, just seemed normal for over here.

As I said in previous posts I call Idaho, Washington State and Oregon the Truck Rich Tri-States. Texas and California are right up there too.

california does still have a lot. but it's getting very hard to find anything original (not beat up, cut down, or hodge podged together). when you do come across a straight original one they are very pricy. i bet texas is similar.

Man, lol, a bit subjective on the word excellent, lol. That truck will never sell at that price on the Birmingham, AL craigslist. He doesn't even state if it runs/drives.
