what grind's your gears?

when working on a project and you hit a slight speed bump (smashed finger, snap a drill bit ect...) its quite easy to just shrug it off for me, but when you having somebody breathing down your neck when your doing something and you hit a speed bump and that guy/gal starts tellin you ways that you should do it or shouldnt do it when they have never done it or even seen it done. Also when your trying to explain what your plans are for a finished project and they say that "you dont want to do that, it's going to look dumb". sorry to the mod's if this is the wrong place but it gives people to get something off their minds.

I agree with you on people telling you how do to things. A kid in class in college pushed me over the edge a few times. He knew what was up when I ignored him. I wasn't the only one he pissed off because of this.

I hang out here & on a few motorcycle forums & what gets to me is when the regulars on the bike sites say "Be origional, do what you want" & then whenever anyone does just that, they are the first ones to say "Thats gay" or "That is the dumbest thing Ive ever seen". People should stay out of others personal taste in my book. BUT if you ask what someone thinks, you better be able to take what comes your way...

I wish i was able to say that but the truck is at his house (my girlfriends parents house) and he is giving it to me (still in his name) and i cant take it to my house (no room).

yesterday i was drilling out the spot welds in the bed side and he was aking me "Why are you drilling them out?" and i replied " so i can get the dents out" and he said "why? its not like you know what your doing" :cuss:

That's when you hand him the drill and ask him to show you how he'd do it.

sounds like he needs to jump in and show you how he'd do it or stfu and stay out of your way so you can do it the way you see fit!

Re: what grind's your gears?

When I first started my project. I wanted a pro-street truck. So I took my frame to a well known shop in Sacramento (which will remain unknown) paid the shop a fair penny to do the job. It looked good when I picked it up. The project sat idle for a few years. Then when I started to work on it again I discovered that the work the shop had down was not square, which would have thrown on the alignment, blah blah, etc. So the frame was junk.

So basically I hate it when you pay a PROFESSIONAL to do a job for you and the work they do is S$*T.

Re: what grind's your gears?

i think i have solved the problem! me and my girlfriend are moving up to Madera, its around 120 miles north of porterville (where we live now). I know this guy (Joe) who has a shop thats about 100'x50' and he said that his shop has plenty of spare room for me to work on the truck. The only bad part about me using Joe's shop is that he is 72 (this guy only looks to be 45) so I wont be able to just go out and work on it whenever i want to.

Re: what grind's your gears?

Sounds like a sweet deal.

For me, it really bugs me when people ask if I'm going to lower my truck. When I say no I always get asked "why not?" I love how lowered trucks look, but it's not for me.

It's my truck, your opinion which are like a$$ h$$$s, every body has one but the only one I pay attention to is mine.

Re: what grind's your gears?

What bugs me the most is when everyone I know bugs me about the truck. They will say that i'll never get back together or i should have just bought a car for a dd. I just tell them to wait and see and proove them wrong.

Re: what grind's your gears?

I mostly grind my own gears...literally and figuratively.

Seriously, what I hate is when I start a project and go in one direction, then decide I want to take it in another direction, then something ALWAYS happens where money I planned on using for my project gets spent on something else. I need more trucks and less bills. :(

But if it is a manual tranny, then normally the worst gringding comes when my wife tries to drive it. :D

Sounds a lot like my ex-wife.

If they want to tell you how to do it ask in a polite way to show you their "better method". Bottom line is if they really know how they'll show you something you might learn from. If they don't they'll walk away and leave you alone. A nice way of put up or shut up!

Re: what grind's your gears?

I hate it when I stop to ask about a vehicle that has been sitting and the guy says "I'm gonna fix that up some day."

Unfortunately, I realized I may be one of those guys, the neighbor kid was asking about the GMC and I said, word for word, "I'm gonna fix that up some day." The truth is ugly...

Re: what grind's your gears?

It pisses me off when people say, "man you're truck is nice. Too bad it's not a fleet side". WTF?? It'd be one thing if you asked them which bed they liked better. I know that fleets are harder to find and have better lines....blah blah blah.....

Or....."You're truck's not low enough". If I wanted it lower, it would be.
If I wanted a blower on it....., o.k. I can't afford a blower ;)

Re: what grind's your gears?

I hate the ones that want to buy your really "NICE" truck and they offer you a $1000.00 and get mad when you say they are full of s$$t. I have that much in just the rims, not counting the tires. If you are dumb, don't make everyone aware of it.

What really bothers me is when folks look at what I've saved my whole life for and say "that's not very pastoral...". What are they thinking? Am I supposed to drive a pinto in order to be a good pastor???

Hmmm, I think I'd say "We have the COOLEST pastor!". Our pastor must be very "pastoral" then, he drives a Buick...

Rick, I believe we are expected to work for the things we want. What could be more pleasing to a Father?

Re: what grind's your gears?

One thing that gets me is someone that has nothing but has had everything you have. "OH WOW nice toolbox I had one just like it" really a Snap on 761/791 combination. "my cousin has a Monte Carlo just like yours" really a 86 SS, T-tops, solid black no stripes, 87 rear bumper & taillights, flush mount door handles, 12" disc brakes, and Xtreme S-10 rims. Why can't they say "I had a large tool box kind of like that" or " my cousin has a monte carlo also" Another one that gets me is when my Monte sits outside the garage at least once a week someone asks if it's for sale. I could sale 100 of them if I had them but I could only get $1,000 a piece because that's all the money they would have if they got $999 from grandma and found 4 quarters in the lazyboy. I can think of some more after I calm down:)

I turned in my '69 for someone to change the 373 to 308 posi gears. They had it over 6 weeks and never even moved it. I was calling on progress weekly..just got blown off. I was pissed!

piecesparts 12-21-2006 03:13 PM

Re: what grind's your gears?

3.73 to 3.08 gears, that is a big step change. Are you sure that is where you want to go?
