Tweeters in the Dash???
 

So driving home tonight I was thinking about speakers for the truck and I had seem the new Audi's pop up tweeters and that got me thinking... what about cutting a pice of pipe at an angle and cutting a hole in the top of the dash and welding the pice in there to where it was like an angled tunnel that was big enough to mount a tweeter?

Anyways where has everyone mounted some tweeters on their trucks? I will try to mock up what I am talking about tomorrow and post some pictures.

Here's my 2ct. The highs from the tweet can be totally screwed by deflection from a tube. They are most often mounted so the soundwave deflects off of a flat surface or is direct in reception. The balance you want to achieve in regards to your sound type will dictate their position, that is why better tweets are built with adjustable bases. I plan to install mine on the back of my rear view mirror (where to hide the wires?)and aim them without interference of each other and another pair turned up in a kick panel. Highs represent the majority of your heard vocal accuity and even Pantera vocals at 140db should be able to be understood. If your into boom who cares, but for a system to be versatile you really need to know how to make the best of your cab space. These single cabs are the hardest for me to get a take-on with the bass. I have yet to decide what sub to put into my reg cab 04 or my 72 to get a balance. I've ran 2 quality 10's with a lotta amp in my camaro's and blazer and have been really satisfied with the versatility of box design and placement for the right sound but they have good room for a soundwave to form. This is a great topic to see what others are doing. I need kidney killin' bass and rippin guitar riff's for metal and eyeball shakin bass with the full range for groups like Cypress Hill. What's your take striker, you a have quite a bit of thought into it?

I have a 91 S-10 and there's 1 4x6 mounted in each top corner of the dash facing up into the windshield. I've always thought that I could put a pair of smaller speakers or tweeters in the same configuration in the 67. I won't be trying this for several years until I get my interior worked out, but maybe someone else wants to try this and let us know.

I put a tweet and a 4" mid range from Planet Audio in the dash of my old 70 C20. Sounded really nice. Never got pics of it that way though. Pain to cut with the windshield in. Worked well. Then again, I also cut the rear window surround to put in a set of 4" composites for rear fill, too.

For my C10, I am putting the tweets in the aluminum spacer of my one piece window kit.

I have them in the same place in my Ram. Sounds great and it's very well aimed at my head.

I saw a pic around here one time. The owner put tweets in a set of factory a/c housings at each end of the dash.

I built a mount to put two tweats behind the stock mono-speaker grill in the dash. You lose some of the stereo effect, but the sound is crisp deflected off the windshield, and they're out of sight. Sorry no pics...

Brento,for wiring to a mirror you might look at S-10 mirrors,esp. from a Tahoe version they had map lights in the bottom of the rear veiw and the wiring might be useable for what you want.Also auto dimming is avail on some Dodges in the Rv so that may also be a source.

I was always told by a friend of mine who installed stereos that the tweeter should never be more than six inches away from the mid for the best sound.

Here is where I mounted mine. The hanger on each side of the cab. I never hung clothes up in my truck so I didn't see any reason to keep them. Hole was already there just used the sheet metal screw and drilled another small hole for the wires and done.

this would be a lot of work but pulled off would look trick. It’d be easier to mold something into the a pillar.
the only problem with this is the extra weight on the mirror, possibly causing it to aim everywhere but of out your back window, and if you have one tweet aiming towards your kick panel (not actually aiming) the sound waves will “attack” each other/phase cancelation for the big word.
your friend was right, but not always can that happen due to some interiors.

What was never talked about or asked the OP is how loud do you want it? Brento wants stage quality stuff in his, great mid/tweets and bass you can feel.
If Striker just wants some better sound, first what do you have as far as sound right now? Possibly improve/upgrade what you have and that will make a huge world of difference...?

I am no car audio aficionado, but I do have around 2300 watts, 4 6.5”mids 6 1" dome tweeters 2 8" mid bass and 2 12" woofers in my Colorado. The tweeters are about 2 feet from the mids, and well at 139.4db with all doors open you can hear it quite well and fell the bass from across a parking lot, and with the doors closed it hurts a little bit.

I have also thought about using the singal a piller guage mounts like this and mounting them.

I made a small wood plate for 2 4" 2 ways and mounted it in the center dash location.

found a stock AM/FM/CASS/CB radio for my 79 Jimmy
was the easiest way for me to work it in "stockish" lol

You could make a fiberglass pod to sit on top of the dash pad, or behind it. I'm replacing my center speaker right now with two 4"s. I thought about cutting a hole and letting them bounce off of the windshield, but instead I realized I didn't need it because the speakers I bought have both mids and tweeters anyway.

I took out the cluster and the glove box and used a 3" hole saw from underneath to put 3 1/2" speakers in my dash. I used 79 or 80 malibu cast grills, the speakers attach to the grills and screwed them to the top of the dash the same as the malibu, it looks stock and was very easy.
