How much lift do you have on your rig? What size tires?

I will be replacing springs in my my '69 and I'm looking for a stance about like yours.

Eric, It's a 2" HD tuff country springs up front w/ ORD HD shackles. In the rear I removed the factory block and replaced it w/ a 2" tapered block and added an add-a-leaf from tuff country.
The front sits slightly higher than the rear maybe 1/2". I got about 3" of lift in the front and overall about 2.5" in the rear.
The tires are 33" TSLs, which are about 34" tall, they do not rub. Mounted on 15x10 white wagon wheels. I got the tires because of the load range "D" rating.

The pic's of your truck are deceiving, I was thinking you had at least 4" or 5". I'm thinking of going with 2" HD springs all around + a 1" add a leaf. That should give me roughly what you have for lift.

I may also upgrade to the heavy duty hangers on the rear. I haven't figured out why some trucks have larger hangers, but as near as I can tell the 69's have a smaller hanger than 70, 71 & 72. The heavy duty units drop the front of the rear spring about 2" which would add about another 1" of lift.

I got a good 3" of lift from the front. I talked to Steve @ ORD as I was not expecting that much lift and it's because they are the heavy duty springs, I could make them ez ride by removing the bottom spring, per tuff country.
Also like to add I replaced my body mounts w/ a poly kit, several of my mounts were so compressed you could wiggle the bolts about 1/2" up and down.

Post a pic of the front of the rear spring I'd like to see how the hanger is mounted.

Eric, I went out and checked my 70 GMC and it has the shorter mount like your 69. But I believe they compensated for this because before I added the 2" lift my truck had a factory 1" block in the rear. I'm thinking I might look to find some of the longer mounts and get another inch of lift in the rear and give mine a slight rake.

HeavyK20 04-14-2004 08:02 AM

I had a 70 chevy that had the big mounts. I guess that kills my theory of only the 69's having small mounts.

I wonder if there was some sort of heavy duty option or something?

Both my trucks had the HD front and rear spring RPOs on the glove box. Maybe a mid-year switch?
