Freshening up the 80 k10

It's time to fix up our old k10! I bought this truck years ago "ready to paint", in primer. Not knowing any better, I painted the truck, and the paint looked nice for about 2 years, and then rust started coming through. A few years later the primer started cracking and peeling, and now the truck looks like crap. I have installed a goodwrench 350, a freshened up th350, and I rebuilt the np205, new springs, and all sorts of stuff over the last few years. This truck gets used alot, makes trips to the dump, pulls the car trailer, has served winter truck duty for the last few years, and it's time for the old girl to get some attention. The plan is pretty simple, it needs cab corners, rockers, doors, the front fenders are poor fitting aftermarket units, and the bedsides have a ton of old bodywork in them, I have some nice rust free GM front fenders, and bedsides that just need some minor body work, I have a set of new doors that I'll uses if I can get them to fit decent, and have to do a little rust repair on the bed floor. I think I'm going to change the color to "sour apple green metallic", and possibly 2 tone it with white, but at this point I'm undecided about the 2 tone, I do have a full trim kit for the truck that will go on either way. This won't be a super fancy build, just getting our old truck back into decent shape. I enlisted the help of my oldest son last night, and we dove in and started tearing it down!:metal:

This was how it turned out the last time I painted it. I sure wish it would have lasted longer...

I've made some progress on the cab. The drivers side got a full inner rocker, an outter rocker, a kick panel, and a inner, and outter cab corner. The passenger side got a small section of the inner rocker repaired, the bottom of the kick panel repaired, a small floor patch, a rocker panel, and inner and outter cab corners. Both sides had the cab floor supports replaced also. I have to finish pulling stuff off the cab, then it's time for body work.:metal:

How do the repro door shells fit? I wish I had your energy.

The doors fit "ok" out of the box. One they are bolted on where you want them, the window frames need to be kind of twisted into shape to line up with the body, the lower door hinges needed the door side holes enlarged to allow the bottom of the door to get close enough to the body, and the front lower corners needed a little work with a dead blow hammer. The bottom of the doors are a little wavey, but with a little tinkering they fit decent.

I got the first round of bodywork done on the cab, and shot some epoxy, and high build primer.:metal:

I got a little more work done on the cab, I was anxious to see some color, so I got the inside of the cab painted. I really like the way it turned out!:metal: I love this color.

This old girl has been pushed to the side for awhile, but im getting back after it. In the past couple weeks I got the cab, doors, and front fenders painted, cleaned up and painted the frame rails with some eastwood rust paint, and put some gaskets and seals in the engine, put an edelbrock intake on it, and got that painted up.

Looking good! How is your goodwrench 350 holding up? I have 35,000 miles on mine with no issues besides the rear main seal leaking from day one.

Thanks guys! The goodwrench 350 has worked well for me, it has been in there for about 6 years, but doesn't have many miles on it. The rear main seal started leaking after about a year.

Got the undercoating cleaned off the bottom of the cab, and got it scrubbed down with some wax and grease remover, and got some broken seat belt bolts drilled out, and the threads cleaned up. A new front seal went in the transmission, and the engine is set back in the frame. I also replaced all of the rubber fuel lines in the fuel system.

What’s your plan for the bed floor repair? I have the same issue and am looking for options other than replace it. Those floors are expensive!

I bought the bed repair panels, and the ribs seem to line up nice, but since I bought those I got a very nice rust free bed floor.:metal:

I got the core support cleaned up, and cleaned up a set of inner fenders, gave them a shot of epoxy primer, and a couple coats of satin black. Its super hot and humid, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all dries up ok.:metal:
