My 88' K2500 Build

Hi. New to the forum. A lot of nice trucks here. I don't have much time/money/space as I used to but I'll update this thread as I go.Well, here she is. 1988 K2500 Long bed. 2.5" Rancho lift up front. Add a leafs in the back. 10k Warn winch. I haven't found my dana 60 yet but I've been looking. I'd love to do a solid axle swap. Just need to gather all the parts.

So, I decided to go with a roll pan. I know, I know not on a 4x4. Rear bumper was bent and rusty so it had to go. I wasn't having much luck finding a straight replacement bumper at any of the yards. Found a couple on C/L but they were asking way too much. Couple pics of the install.

Bumper was pushed into the quarter panel a bit.

Fitting up the pan.

I chose to bolt the pan on.

I scored a hidden hitch for $40:metal: I haven't mounted it yet but I did work on the flip up license plate bracket last weekend. Went to my local Pick N' Pull and found a two position bracket off of an 88' Camaro for $4. On this era Camaro, the lock for the rear hatch is located behind the license plate so GM was nice enough to make the bracket a two position bracket. You flip it down and it stays down. I just mounted it upside down.

I think the roll pan looks good black. I did order some factory matched paint. WA8807 - Ultra Silver Met.

I'm still debating on wether to leave black or paint it to match.:alky: What do you think?

Re: My 88' K2500 Build

So... My truck has been hard to start for the last few days. I've been having to give it gas to start. Plus no high idle.

I was poking around this morning before work and I noticed that the IAC connector tab had broke at the pigtail. The connector popped out about a 1/4 inch.

I plugged it back in and taped it up using electrical tape.

I thought this was a good temporary fix but I was about ten miles in to my commute when it popped off. I think the EGR valve was giving off too much heat for the tape to hold up.

Re: My 88' K2500 Build

Luckily my local parts store had the IAC pigtail instock. I took the new pigtail and extracted the pins so I could transfer the original wiring to the new housing. I try to avoid cutting and splicing when possible plus my connector keeps the factory colors instead of four black wires.
Dorman Part #85112 - Idle Air Control Valve Socket.
The pin extractor that I used is made by Molex. I think I purchased it from McMaster-Carr.

BTW - I'm a total pic whore if you haven't noticed yet. So... on with the pics.

Okay all done. Hopefully this one lasts another 22 years.

Nice pics, nice truck. I'd paint the roll pan -- my $.02

Thanks. Yeah, I've decided to paint it. Matching Paint is on the way. I hate waiting for UPS.

I just ordered a few other things too. I'm going to install a fuel pressure gauge at the TBI. CFM Tech sells a nice fitting and I'm going with an Autometer gauge from Summit.

And of course, I'll take pics.:metal:

looks good. i like the roll pan. i would have probably tried to take the dent out of the bumper an repaint it myself. i have all chrome bumpers and used rattle can bedliner on them cause i don't like much chrome, and of course its not sticking too well sadly. i need to either fab or get a hold of a more heavy duty front and rear bumper.

Yeah I hear ya. I've always liked the look of a roll pan. Wanted to try it out. I chose to bolt it in so I could easily go back to a bumper in the future. I'd love to get an offroad style bumper for the rear. Everything I find is too expensive. Fabbing is defininetly the way to go. I haven't mounted my hidden hitch yet. Been lazy about it. :D
