Bed angle repair
The bed angles on the bed side panels have rusted off about 2' back from the front. I know I can get new angles, but was wondering if I should
1) cut off the rusted end and patch in a new one since it is already rusted off the bed side, or 2) take off the entire angle and replace it. I'm leaning toward 2, but don't know what the best way is to remove the entire angle piece from the bed side. The bed sides are in good shape and I don't want to do more damage removing the old angles. |
Re: Bed angle repair
angles are spot welded in, easiest way to remove them is to grind from the inside of the bed
i used 1.25x1.25x1/8 angle to replace mine |
Re: Bed angle repair
How do you weld them back?

Re: Bed angle repair
MAR-K has instructions on their website, and you can get new bed strips there too. You can use angle iron like Ogre if you don't mind that it's not exactly like original.

Re: Bed angle repair
Steel angle strips are 33 bucks a pair plus shipping. http://www.mar-k.com/Catalog/index.aspx?LID=1274
If the rest of the angle strips are real presentable and you have some donor pieces and spend a bit of time with fit and finish you can probably do fine by patching them. If you have the bed all apart where you can put the sides up on saw horses to work on them it might be pretty easy. Most of them are beat up, bent and rusted out though. |
