5.3 to th400

Does anyone have a pic of how the flexplate spacer is supposed to mount? I have both a flat and a dishes flexplate. Also any "one better than the other " thoughts? I'd like to get this thing between the frame rails tomorrow:)

Ok so I tried the diymetalfab way...I won't go as far as to call bs yet, maybe I missed something. For starts, carbine burs on that flywheel at 2500 rpm had little effect. Secondly, I followed this photo for reference on which direction the hole should be drilled. Even though I ended up having to use a titanium bit and waller out holes on the flywheel and they look a little more chewed-up than I'd like them they're still not lining up. After 2 days, 2 5.3 flywheels, and 30 bucks in bits, I'm thinking I'm gonna buy a pre drilled flywheel and turn these two into range targets.

Use the dished flexplate only...dish towards engine...spacer between flex plate and crank....

so from crank face, mount adaptor with convertor boss pointing backwards, then flex plate...

It looks like you have the adaptor coming on from the convertor side not engine side...see second pic on DIY site...
(Thanks mongo !)

That's a pic from their site. I just used it as reference as to which direction I should try to drill out the holes in.

Yup both pics look right as far as the adapter goes. Unfortunately my issue now is the flexplate itself and trying to get it up to my own standards. Like I say I've drilled out two I wasng happy with going by their pics. Problem is, is that all the typical aftermarket suppliers of predrilled plates are on backorder. I might try little Joe's out in Denver, or maybe Crawley there in cherryville.... either way its luck up on one local or proceed with drill attempt #3.

You may be better off o take it to a machine shop and let them do it..

Ok...now I get what has you stuck....

I have to assume you are using a hand drill and burs or a drill bit itself to elongate the holes....slow work at best...

Do you have access to a drill press?

Last time I did one of these I predrilled where the center of the new hole would need to be located with a small drill bit then gradually opened up the hole until break thru was achieved, than used a dremel bit and grinding stone to finish it off....took maybe half an hour per hole....

If you dont have a drill press, a machine shop would be your best bet....

Good luck...
