Shops / Garages

1 Attachment(s)
Currently I work on my projects out of my two car garage. Someday I hope to have a separate shop, so my wife doesn't have to step over or walk around my stuff when she's getting the little ones out of the grocery getter. For those of who have your own oasis, please post up a pick so that the rest of us can drool/dream. :chevy: Here is a pic of my two car garage. Only 550 sq ft, but big enough to do most things.

unfortunately my shop is 10 miles away from home and has no heater so working during wintertime is hard sometimes.Atleast its dry and has plenty of room to store everything!

My wife's car sits in the one car attached garage on the house. That keeps it out of my way. I have the 40' X 40' shop behind the house for the trucks. Pictures will come later---40 X 40 with 12' ceilings and a two post lift; two 10 X 8 foot roll up doors and a 12 X 10 foot roll up door. Insulated and lined on the inside with the same sheet metal as the outside.

Thats the big shot (another third behind the picture, but its two storys of mainly parts and tool storage)

We also have a two car grarge that has my brothers 55 and alot of others parts in it, so all the room we have to wrok inside there is the workbench and parts cleaner, so most of our stuff is done outside (trying to build another grarge for indoor parking and a lift)

Nice shop NONHOG!

Bad pic....taken from the back of my '78....
Sheetmetal brakes, drill press, 110 and 220V welders and air compressor, lots of 1/18th scale diecast superstock cars, 7 engines, lots of "junk", etc.....it's tight....
Gotta get the Charger out so I can get the '69 'Burban in for a little work.

All I can say is WOW! Great cars/trucks guys!! I wish I had a shop also. I did most of the work including a body swap in the backyard and patio. I have a two car garage on the house, but my lwb just barely fits in to close the door. Basically, If I need to work on something; I pull the cars out of the garage. Still dreaming of a shop:waah:...........David

Here is mine ( I need to take some new shots)

We can always make use of more, but it fits nice into the layout of the house and yard. 24x30, with a 15x18 overhang. It gives me enough room (I think) to work on my project truck. I can't handle more than one at a time at the moment, so all is good.

This is a general idea of my shop and the room that I have. My buddies told me to build till it hurt and then add 10% more.

I have a 2 car garage attached to te side of the house. 24 x 28. Right now it looks like a tornado hit it. or I would post pics.
I remember when we first bought the place the wife said alright, finally a indoor parking place for my car.
I was like OH NO. The garage is all mine. I did build her a 21 x 24 carport. That made her happy.

WE can live with this--IF you can. Believe me I spent many years working under shade trees and in the weeds. I grew up on a farm and I am a master at looking for that bolt or tiny keeper spring in the dirt.

Some nice shops there. There are a ton of shops like you would find in "Dream Garages" and some smaller ones over at www.garagejournal.com
Many have exotics in them and some are one cars ,it's a basic mix like here. Some of the ideas there I am in the process of incorporating into my attched 20x20.

Moneyeater -- it looks like your garage predates your trucks -- by a couple of hundred years! Awesome!

You guys have seen my build thread. I'm not quite as far along as the other guys:

Re: Shops / Garages

A few of the Okie members have seen this one, but here is my garage/loft. 30'x40' with 950sf up top. Photos are from when it was under construction, but it looks roughly the same still --- actual garage space is about 980 with a small 150 sf weightroom and a bathroom downstairs. I'll attach a current pic of the downstairs space tomorrow if i can remember. Its nothing too special, but it keeps me out of trouble

I am actually living upstairs full time now -- plans are to build a house next to it, but i have to sell another home and a piece of property first. Only one bedroom, but with no kids, its not too bad

Yes it does it was build in 1866! Last october it was hit by a lightning and we had all the luck that it didnŽt burn.It was a cold hit and only destroyed all the electrical installation. The funny side about that is that the lightning cooked every bit of fluid in the logs and killed the woodbugs that were eating up the construction! Now thereŽs only dust on my truck not woodpieces anymore! And the insurance payed the new electrical installation with more light and outlets!
Hey your shop lookes awesome and i like the american style homes and shop very much!
IŽll try to build a home next year that bases on a homeplan from " Archway Homeplans"!

Wow, I would have guessed it was much older than that!

And I like the house plans. My biggest complaint about modern building here in the US is that they totally ignore the outside appearance -- only thinking about the interior space. That house, on the other hand, has a lot of very nice architectural details!

Re: Shops / Garages

I ove the idea of building it completely from wood and have the outside showing how comfy it feels inside!
In germany everything is a bit more complicated so i have to have a professional do the math for the structural integrity and the county allow me to build that style of house in the desired place!
IŽll also want to have some better "gasmilage"(donŽt know the right term!)and go with what they call earthwarmth and solarpanels for electricity and warming water and storing rainwater for the toilets and washingmashine!
Works great and saves money in the long run but the costs for installing and buying all that go up first!
However-- i like the american style and i want it around me!

Here's my 40x60 shop - I am so lucky that it was already built when we bought our house, I would never had been able to talk my wife into letting me build a shop like this!
