Tail light fuel filler
5 Attachment(s)
Here's my version of a tail light fuel filler. I would have taken better pics of it as it went together, but my fab skills leave alot to be desired. It was fun though, and turned out ok I think. It still needs some fine tuning(rubbing, spring tension, paint, etc), but I'm satisfied so far. Filling the tank will be the real test. Thanks to you guys that helped with ideas and parts.

Re: Tail light fuel filler
i don't understand why these LED taillights are so expensive. Aren't LED bulbs like a couple pennies each? bread board, some wire, resistors, and you're done.
I'm not saying i could go out and make a set without burning the house, or my truck down, but it just doesn't compute with me how these lights can be so expensive. I do agree, the full led looks really good. |
Re: Tail light fuel filler
oh, and your work looks really good too. This is exactly what i am planning to do once i get my tank relocated.
give us some details on what you used for parts. |
Re: Tail light fuel filler
Where did you get the full-panel LEDs?

Re: Tail light fuel filler
I think this calls for a full FAQ writeup. I like this better than the side marker fill. I'm wondering what holds it closed?

unfortunately for me, i like the full plate LED's, so i'll end up forking over the $200 for them. i guess that's why they can charge that much. |

The LEDs came from ECE, and are manufactured by board member "Jmac05". Other than that, it's just 1 & 1/2" muffler pipe, fuel hose & clamps, some 3/8 pipe fittings, an old hinge that I had, a throttle spring, sheetmetal, bondo, & primer. If I was to do it again, I'd change a few things like lowering it a half inch or so, and I would change the angle of the muffler tubing to aim straight at the tank filler pipe. This would require removing one or two of the bedside to rear crossmember bolts, but I think it would still be strong enough. Oh yeah, the 2 rubber bumpers are 67-72 fleetside tailgate bumpers. Here's another angle. |

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. |
Re: Tail light fuel filler
Where did the backin plate for the lights come from(the one that hinges down)? Is that part of the LED kit? That came out great, and looks smooth.
Just out of curiosity, where does the spring connect to the light fixture at? |

Re: Tail light fuel filler
i think it looks good..i think the ideas for relocating the fill up tube are better than just sticking it under the wheel well to hang there...i like this idea...
