Hey all, quick question (while I'm sitting in these)...
 

Anyone ID these - before I put any effort into saving them (theres 2). Currently, the drive is out the "front" of them....

Small block chevy, could be 305 or 350. Not too many other options I don't think....

More likely a 283 or 327.
Casting number will provide more info.

327 OMC (SBC) from look of intake with "front of engine" fill tube and no PVC on the rocker covers....

Check casting number on flywheel end of engine and post the number...it will tell us immediately what it is...

BTW...most OMC 327 are 4 bolt mains,,,,,

Check them really well for valley cracks...these get left out in inter weather with zero freeze protection...

For the life of me I can seem to find any numbers on the back side of the blocks. Or the heads for that matter. I do know early/mid 70s. I'll dig some more tomorrow. Thanks all!

If they are in the same boat, one is probably reverse rotation. My early 60's Chris Craft 283 is very similar.

And I think they are, the one distributor has stickers on it " re-numbering" the terminals.

Unless you know the history, almost anything could be hiding in there. How many 350 blocks will come back as 160HP stock based on numbers that after opening up are really 300+ HP 383s? And you can't really tell by the 'dress' as it will fit on blocks from 283 to 400.

Boat owners are just as likely to want a faster hole shot as a car owners want a quicker 0-60.

If one is reverse rotation, it might be worth saving just for that reason.

If they are truly boat motors.

They usually have better blocks in terms of casting materials.

Plus either high nodular cranks or very often forged.

I like buying old boat motors for performance applications as they used to effectively equal race blocks, but on a budget I could afford. Similar to how brand F guys use FT parts to build a wicked FE.

As apposed to what exactly? Sounds like a normal 4" bore block, the kind everyone wants when doing Gen I engines.

They're in a boat that is being (I'm) demolishing. Washed up sideways on shore and will most likely have to reach out to them with a backhoe. It's a large boat, holes in hull. It'll be a bit of an effort (and it's cold - ha). I guess I'm wondering if worth the effort or wasting my time.

If those things have a jet-drive or vee-drive, they could also be worth some money -- as long as you're salvaging things. Check eBay for typical prices to see if your time is worth it.

I would save 'em first, then figure out what they're worth. Good cranks and rods for sure....those manifolds are probably worth $100 a piece...etc.
