'72 Suspension List Confirmation

1 Attachment(s)
Can someone confirm that this is the entire parts list needed to completely rebuild the front suspension on a '72 C10? I've looked over a number of threads on this subject and confirmed the parts. I just don't want to miss anything.

upper ball joint (two)
lower ball joint (two)
outer tie rod end
inner tie rod end
adjuster sleeve
pitman arm (P/S)
idler arm
upper control arm shaft kit (two)
lower control arm shaft kit (two)
stabilizer bar bushing

I got a 20% off napa coupon in an e-mail today, I think this will beat just about everyone's prices.

The attached file has the part numbers on it for moog.

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

Ok so now I have another question. Moog seems to be the vendor of choice for front suspension parts. But from what I just read is that Moog was sold by federal-mogol and the quality has deteriorated. That and Napa doesn't sell Moog (at least not listed online). Anyone have recent experience with Moog or Napa?

You will need right & left inner & outer tie rod ends. Napa & Moog both have good quality front end parts.

I did a bunch of front end work a year ago with Moog parts. All good stuff, from rockauto.com.

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

Not sure how much it will cost at NAPA, but I just bought all those from rockauto and it was pretty cheap. When the order arrived I noticed I messed up and only ordered one lower ball joint. I figured I'll just source that locally, it's easy enough. When I looked online the prices were as follows:

Moog K6023 lower ball joint
Rockauto: $ 13.75
O'Reilly: $31.99

Pretty shocking!

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

I priced this out on Rock Auto, Amazon, and then compared it to Napa's parts (at first I didn't realize Napa didn't sell Moog). Rock Auto is defiantly the cheapest. Napa was around $800 I think and Amazon was about $100 more than Rock Auto.

Thanks Everyone for your input.

Remember to get 2 inner and outer tie rod ends and 2 adjusting sleeves! You learn from your mistakes...

this post has my list.

oh mines for c20 sorry.

i paid around $800. I priced it at rockauto at about $600 but I wanted to buy local.

All my stuff was moog. All of it said made in USA on the box. None of it had any stamp of origin on any of the actual parts that i could see.

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

Don't forget the inner wheel bearing seal.

Maybe get new dust caps and spindle nut/cotter pin. Otherwise looks like you have it all covered. I got all my Moog front end parts from Rockauto also. :metal:

Make sure to bring lots of patience and a few cuss words when you go to swapping the shafts. Oh better get a 36mm and 42mm sockets for the shaft nuts. :uhmk:

So I found the inner wheel bearing seal but can't find the dust caps and castle nut. Anyone know what they are under?

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

I am using 73+ drop spindles so I cant say if they are the same. Although they use the same brake rotor from 71-86. The dust cap should be the same since the rotor is the same unless the 72 spindle shaft stickout is more or less. The dust cap and spindle nut are sold in the help section at most all auto parts stores too for pretty cheap. Maybe just pick them up local where it would be easier to return them if they do not fit.

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

Here is the shopping cart with most of the parts to rebuild the front suspension on a 1972 C10. The spindle nuts and dust covers are missing, I will source those locally. The other thing that I didn't include are the sway bar bushings. For those I am going to get polyurethane and may upgrade the sway bar so I skipped those for now. Total with the shipping is $424.64 (without the 5% discount applied).

Thanks again for the help gentleman, greatly appreciated!

Don't forget to buy grease. And lots of it!

Re: '72 Suspension List Confirmation

Yeah I just finished completley rebuilding my front end. The shafts are a pain and drilling out the upper ball joints are no fun either
