Tilt Column Light Green Filter

Ok - tying up loose ends on my final assembly and had an "unfortunate" incident with the small green cover (filter) for the light indicator. GM part number377994. May have been superceded by 3772254. Has anyone found a source for these? I would think that all GM products of that era that had tilt columns would have used this P/N but not getting any hits on Google. Anyone have any success finding these?

TiA,
Randy

TTT - has anybody figured out an alternative solution? Maybe paint the bulb green?...
Thanks,

I found a packet of green filters at PepBoys, but I'm sure you can find them in any AP store that carries lighting accessories. I haven't got around to putting one on yet, so I don't know how it'll work

Re: Tilt Column Light Green Filter

any chance you could post a part number - manufacturer - UPC code? Anything to help chase them down would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Randy

Autometer has a green light cover that might work #3215

Beadblaster - Great info!!! On order, will post on how they work out. There was another brand for a similar item on Amazon also. Ordered some of those also to have options.

Re: Tilt Column Light Green Filter

So with the help of the forum members I had success with the little green light "condoms".

Here's what worked for me. I ordered a package of the AutoMeter green light boots (P/N 3215) as pictured in the above responses as well as a package of the Memotronics green boots (P/N BOOT-G-LARGE) to see which ones would fit better.

Results were the Autometer bulb covers have a lip around the base of the covers that prevent the bulb cover when installed on the metal bulb housing from fitting into the column. You could take a razor blade and trim the lip off the bulb cover once installed over the housing.

The Memotronics don't have the lip and work great! They fit very well (lube with windex to slide onto the bulb housing) and are the right shade of green to match very closely to the instrument cluster lights. They come in a package of 5 which is good because they are very thin. I tore one on the first attempt.

Another trick on the insertion/removal of the actual bulb (P/N 1445) as it's very hard to get to with these old fat fingers is t use a small piece (2-3") of rubber hose just slightly smaller than the bulb diameter to rotate the bulb to insert/remove. Rotate very slightly clockwise to install, Opposite to remove.

Thanks to all for the help! Maybe this will help someone else.

Re: Tilt Column Light Green Filter

So being fairly new to the forum and learning so much from the "old Timers" I just want to contribute when and where I can. Working on some other stuff too. Why are the aftermarket stainless windshield trims crap? I've got a set of aftermarket trim placed next to a set of OEM. The aftermarket trim is not formed correctly! The top long piece that goes all the way across the windshield is the wrong curvature and there is no "flex"! More on that in another thread...

Which aftermarket radio antennae fit our trucks - not many but I just received a new one from a vendor last night that looks pretty darn good. Will report out on that after I do a "fit test" on my truck this weekend. Results in a new thread...

Front aftermarket fenders are CRAP. I learned the hard way, cost me a bunch of $$$... New Thread coming...

Aftermarket tachs with HEI distributors won't work. Oh yes they (some) will! New thread...

I really need to learn how to post pics so you guys can see what I'm talking about on all the above.

Anyway, just want to pass on lessons learned where I can.

Best Regards,
Randy
