I purchased this truck a few months ago and finally got some time to get it in my father's shop the last two days. Here are a few pics of my progress thus far. Thought I would throw a few pictures out and see what you guys think.:uhmk:
Upgrade plans: 385 Fastburn ECE 4/6 American Autowire Blue/White Two-tone Mar-k Full Trim or NOS Huges 460L overdrive and all the little things to get back together in great condition. Follow along and please post any suggestions, ideas etc... Any advice is appreciated. THANKS! |

A little history: I've been looking for a short bed on and off for the last ten years and finally the timing and cash worked out and I got it a few months ago. The previous owner started to redo the truck and had some personal issues and it sat in his shop since 2006. He purchased a Fastburn 385, threw it in (really) and never even fired it up. The motor has been sitting in it since late 07. It has some rust under the cab but all in all it seems really solid.
I've gotten tons of ideas from reading on here the last two months so here goes. Tomorrow I'm going to get chassis paint and some primers etc. My Dad has two pallets of media so let the games begin if the weather stays nice. |

Looks like a pretty solid overall starting point. I'm sure the media will reveal some more rust but you'll be well ahead by getting it down bare and being able to take care of it all so it doesn't come back soon after paint.
Sounds like a good plan! the drop you're looking at would still keep it plenty functional. Looking forward to the build! |

Looking for a radiator support in decent shape... Where is a good source for a quality support that bolts up like it should? Any vendors on here that have them?
I need to find the pic of mine and post it up. Not in really bad shape just about a 10 inch area that was under the battery is pretty gone. Just realized the pic above shows the front but what is in bad shape is the bottom rail on the engine side of it. I guess this is pretty normal cause the parts truck I have is even worse in that area. |

Update: Well, things are moving along pretty well so far. Couple of pics of the progress and the vicious cycle is underway.:devil: Can someone explan what the deal is with those to fuel line going up in the cab? Most everything is coming off decent one cab mount was welded in by rust the rest did ok. Man the rubber just crumbled once I got them out. working on the frame today.

Nice progress!
The fuel lines are part of the vapor capture/ recirc. system that was a 72 only. there is a small hose that runs from the filler to the tank on a 72 only tank also that's part of the same stystem. |

Today was a beautiful January day for Virginia so I was able to take advantage of the warm weather and pressure wash the frame and bed. I have some SEM rust shield and dupont chassis paint in waiting. I guess my plan is to complete the frame and suspension/brakes first. I also hope ups will bring the tips tomorrow for the sandbaster (3/32). We got new aluminum oxide media that should do well. Any suggestions or ideas that might help me out? Thanks everyone.

Well the Ochra/white top is my Dad's old work truck that has been in service now since about the mid 80's. It's been through several small block 400s and 60k into a crate 350. Dump bed with all aluminum body and sides. Rubber mat with a decent seat and vintage air for the ride home after a hard day.
I love that thing! It's a real work horse... The lift is left from my fathers Construction days ;) Needless to say it comes in quite handy all the time. I still use it on jobs if we have any that is... You need to ride up one day. Let me know when your ready to run the blaster.:lol::lol::lol: |

Very cool! Sounds like a super cool work truck! I need to get some things done around here and then definitely will make a trip up that way!
