What t-case would you run? 4x4 noob here

So I'm getting a little ahead of myself here but I'm researching everything I'm going to need for an LS swap into my blazer lovingly named White Trash. The 350/350 combo in it is tired and has trouble shifting and the 205 doesn't work for some reason. This is going to be a budget build, (all stock 4.8 or 5.3, trans, front and rear diffs) Its stock height with 30s on stock wheels if that makes any difference.

HERE is my question: What transfer case would be the easiest to install behind an 4l80 or 4l60 with a passenger side drop? And what version would I need, 4x4 or 2x4? Its going to be a street driver that will hardly ever see any actual 4x4 use. I don't really want to have to take a transmission apart to put an output shaft in cause I can't do that myself. SO what say you 4x4 experts here? What would you recommend?

If you can afford another transfer case you can afford to fix your 205 and adapt it to your drivetrain.

Use the 205. One, if not the best transfer case ever made. It's an easy swap to a 4L60E using the Advanced adapter.

The 205 can also be use with the 4L80E. It's pretty near bulletproof.

241 passenger drop, because you can get a VSS speedo that hooks up to the LS programming. Plus you get a lower 4L.

Guess it depends on what you use the truck for. I like my 700/241 cause it's a crawler. If I LS swap it, I will change the tail cone to a VSS and keep my SYE 241.

I kept my 205 and got the Advanced Adapters kit. Came with VSS as well. Wouldn't do it any other way.

I'm running a NP205 case behind my 454/TH400, because it's gear drive, and I've never had a problem with it in the 30 years I've been driving the Blazer.

If you have the money there is the lomax tcase. It's a beefed up np205 with most bolt patterns and should bolt up to the 60 or 80 trans. Also has a nice gear ratio. It's pricey though and may be overkill but it's pretty much unbreakable.

It comes down to a matter of how tough of a TC you want and what you're willing to spend.
The 205 is likely the toughest most durable OEM TC that has ever been used and there are hundreds of thousands of them still in service.

Two cons for the 205.....1.96:1 low range ratio and they're really heavy....

The 241 has 2.72:1 low range but it's aluminum case and chain drive...despite that there are hundreds of thousands of them out there still in service as well...

Since you don't plan on any hard core off-road use.....either one will work just fine....the 241 will be easier to adapt with OEM adapters that are plentiful...

I have(for the future) this set-up that I plan to swap into my '70 K5..

You can use the 205, get a range box that uses a planetary from a scrapped 241 or other TC and get a low of 2.72*1.96 and have a 5.something low for less than an aftermarket case. Search for Duffy on pirate.

Thanks for all the responses guys. It seems like the general consensus is to either stick with the 205 or go with the 241. It really boils down to ease of install and budget for me. This blazer is only going to be street driven and VERY rarely (If ever) see the 4x4 actually engaged. So one of these 2 options are the way I'm going to go.
