ok so many have done electric fans. some have done the maxima fan's(as I have) and other after market fans. heres another one for you guys to try.

I'm a Chrysler tech. and we have this recall for electric fans on Grand Cherokee's. Long story short this lady had a bad fan bought a fan and then came in for the recall. So I had to replace a good, new part number fan.

I'll have to get the part number off of it but here it goes.

The fan fits perfectly inside the shroud. its only a 2 wire fan (ground and power). The only modification to the shroud is 2 holes drilled and a little slit cut in the bottom.

I hope the pictures work, I haven't done this in a while..

I haven't hooked up the fan yet (still need a switch and stuff, was kinda spur of the moment thing) but i'll post how it works when hooked up. if it can cool a full size jeep with A/C and everything else i cant see why it wont cool our old trucks

Very nice setup. How much do those fans normally go for? Why are the factory fans being recalled? Failure vs. fire hazard, etc.

graywolf: Thank You, I dont know I can check tomorrow when i go to work (might be able to get one from a junk yard cheap, just make sure its the new part number witch i'll post tomorrow). The recall was for failure if i remember correctly.

Corn: The plan would be to take the mechanical fan off once the electric fan is wired. Like i said it was a spur of the moment thing i need a switch and a relay and the electric fan will be done.

71 Rat, the way you did the slit for bottom support is the same way I would have done it also. Looks great inside the shroud! You even have room for a bolt and lock nut if you wanted to go overkill!

70C10: Thank You, I actually thought about the bolt on that bottom fan bracket but was waiting untill it was all finished incase I had to remove it for some reason.

That looks like a nice setup and a good fit. I have to ask a stupid question though, does the fan turn the right direction so air is sucked through the radiator ? I'm sure it does, just wanted to check :confused:

Stocker: I hope it is, i personally hate flex fans also but it was on there when i got the truck and im saving for a big block swap so i dont want to put more money then gas money into the truck

green machine: thank you, i was also surprised about the fit also, almost like chrysler thought of our trucks while building it hahahahaha. and yes it will turn in the correct direction (as designed and to pull the air through the rad.) when wired up

I have to ask though.... how the heck is your motor so far from the radiator? That's quite the extender on your fan and it's still not in the shroud?

You can do the same thing with a fan for a lincoln Mark8 and supposedly the rate at 4000CFM. I bought one and if you trim the the electric fan shroud it fixs perfect. I just decided I don't want the factor shrould.

thank you everyone for the kind comments about the fan. I will let everyone know how it works once wired up.

Today I looked up the part numbers and the fan's part number is:CBG4F250 and my dealership's full list for it is $69.95.

someone asked the question of why there was a recall and the orig. fan had problems with the blades they would crack.

67chevy redneck: My motors so far back because it was orig. a 6cyl. and the PO put a sbc in the 6cyl location.

msgross: it matters on how you want to wire it up, Im going to wire mine up with a thermo switch, relay and fuse. I actually got a kit from jegs p/n: 555-10560 it was $45.99. You might be able to find everything cheaper or build your own style also.

I will post when Its all on, hopefully Thurs night I will have it all hooked up and working (stay late at work and wire it all up)

Now that's what I'm talkin bout. You still have the full shroud to pull air across all of the rad and the fan is somewhat concealed from view and it's very reasonably priced. A guy can get it in and going for $150 or so with temp controller too. The curved blades are supposed to run a bit quieter than the straight ones aren't they? And thanks for posting this one.

71 rat, what is the diameter of that assembly,? Im not sure if the opening on my 75 is the same.

stepside454: The fan is currently inside my shroud so i cant get exact measurements for you but just trying to measure it with a tape measure It looks to measure out at 19 inches. I hope that helps

Very nice.Should be enough fan for a stock SB if it was designed for a modern 4.0-4.7 I guess. Where are you going to put the thermo switch?

Well Called My Jeep Dealer To Order A Electric Fan Like Yours Today. Jeep Is Out Of Them Because Of The Recall But Will Be Restocking !!!!! Anyway My Cost Was 46.60. Not Bad At All.
Thanks For The Tip And If It Cools Good I,am Gonna Put Them On All My 71 & 72 Trucks. My 71 With A 250 I-6 And A 3 Core Rad Needs It Bad As It Runs Cool Till You Load It Heavy. This Way I Can Not Have A Fan Till I Need It To Bring Empty Miles Temp Up A Little. Seems Like The I-6,s Are Too Cool Or Too Hot All The Time. That 3 Core Sure Helped Out A Bunch. Should Have Done It 15 Yrs. Ago. No To Figure A Place Out For Temp Sending Unit.bob

ok heres an update for everyone, I just finished the wiring for the fan. I let the truck idle while i cleaned up, a good 15-20 minutes and the fan kicked on and off with the temps of the coolant switch I installed. I know if my truck idled that long with the mechanical fan it would have over heated. I havent driven it with the electric fan yet but the test will be tomorrow to and from work. The fan seems to pull an amazing amount of air (a lot more air then the maxima fans that i did on my longbed). After I was done cleaning up I let the fan run to see how long it took to cool off and to see if i needed to worry about it draining the battery. it ran for only 6 minutes and that was after sitting idle for 20 minutes. Sorry no pictures tonight, I will take some in the day light tomorrow and post them for everyone to see.

I hope this works out as good for everyone else that trys it as it has for me
