New guy from NH
Hey there, I've been lurking for a bit here since a few weeks ago when I got my 71 C10 cab. Tons of good info here and looking forward to contributing. About myself, I am closing in on the mid-50's and have always wrenched on things since a child. I do almost all of the repairs on my cars including engine swaps if needed, winter sometimes makes me get my wallet out for someone else to do a repair. I have liked the GMC version of the C10 since a kid so when a Chevy version came up on CL for a reasonable price I jumped on it. A couple weeks later a stepside of the correct vintage popped up and I brought that home yesterday. This is a budget build that hopefully I can keep under $2500 not counting a decent paint job that maybe my son will do as he works for a restoration place. I have decent fabrication skills that I've honed over the years so will be welding in some new steel before too long as she's got some cancer.
My plan is to drop the cab and bed on something like a 4x4 Tahoe chassis. I see people use the Tahoe firewall and floor which is the way I'm leaning as I do like A/C and others creature comforts. I'm contemplating going into the realm of extended cab but that is a ton more work so TBD at this point but I think I could pull it off. Especially if I can get my garage built soon. I'll post some pics soon of what I've got. Thanks for allowing me in. :) |

Welcome to the group and it sounds like you have a cool project planned. There are some builds on here similar to what you're wanting to do. 75dually was doing one to a 68 at one time. On edit, I found it. He hasn't been on in a while but here it is.

Re: New guy from NH
Thank you and thanks for the thread from 75Dually, I'm a bit jealous of how rust free that truck is. Like others I've found though, he hasn't finished yet. I'm really curious what folks will do for gauges as I would like to use the original dash but with new gauges. I have a background in electronics so maybe I'll force the new gauges in the old dash.
I have some threads saved from freemoto_xxx, thetucks & lower50's. Tons of good info. |
