I'm actually in Louisville, Ky. Those pictures were taken the day I drove the truck back from Cincinnati.

Here's mine.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...d123/Pedro.jpg

87' 350 TBI, 700R4 and 3.08 at the rear.
NYC has beaten it up a bit, so it's not as shinny scratch free, but the spring will bring some re freshening (paint, E cables, exhaust).

Here's what I'm thinking about for a spring (season) drop, maybe a 3/4 or so, still would like to keep a bit of a rake though.

As for the color, it's gets a bit more orange/gold in bright sun and a bit browner in the shade, which is nice cause it sometimes looks like a factory and other times custom.

That's a sharp looking truck. I like the color.

How's the fuel mileage with that tranny and gear combo? We put a 700R4 in front of my son's 3.08 rear end and we go lousy mileage. We gained a large amount of it back when we put a 3.73 gear set in the rear end. with that combo, the truck ran so low in the RPMs that it was always working hard to get back up to speed in hilly country.

In my old 84 it had the 305/700R4 and 3.08's in it. It seemed to do ok on gas mileage.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

My son's truck dropped from 13 to 11 MPG and with the 3.73 gears it went back to 14 MPG. We put the RPMs in the power curve area for the 350 that is in the truck.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

My Gas mileage is pretty decent considering all things, like how I drive... I get low to mid teens, out and about but here's a kicker. A few trips, for example this summer, while carrying at least 1k lbs from NYC to Belfast, ME I almost got 19mpg. I was so surprised that I was doing the math several times both ways.

The biggest thing I appreciate with the 700/3.08 combo is that the first 2 gears will give me a pretty solid launch, but once up and running at cruising speed the engine's taking it nice and easy. I've never had any under power issues, even with a heavy load.

There's a shift kit in there too.

Sooner,

How much (" height wise) and how was the drop done? Looks very close to what I'm going to be aiming for.

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

Its a Mcgauphys 2-4 drop, 2" lowering springs in the front and shackles and hangers in the back. I think it lowered it more than 2-4, its about 28" in the front and about 29" in the back from the ground to the wheel well.
