I should have replaced the heater core
 

I did a frame off on my 79. I should have replaced the heater core at that time, but did not. here we are. I see some drips on my passenger floor board, figure it is a mater of time. What is the best way to deal with this? Should I replace, put some stop leak in there?

IF I replace, best brand and best way. I assume it is best to pull the glove box out as well as the inner fender.

Thoughts?

DO NOT use stop leak,just re route heater hoses for now,so you can still drive it,and when you are ready to tear apart

I did my 80,s truck in a hour tops. Just hung down the heater box out of the way,didn,t have to take it right off and remove the hoses under the hood and replaced it ,was easy. Glove box would help too but I don,t remember removing it

A/C truck? Getting to the bottom two nuts is a bit of a pain, but possible with the right combination of extensions. No need to drop the inner fender. Non A/C truck? An hour is probably about right.

In my experience, stop leak buys you a few months. Since we are in summer, you don't really need the heater anyway and it would likely start leaking just in time for winter.

If you don't want to fix today, get one of those by-pass hose fittings from the parts store and skip the stop leak.

I bought a replacement core from O'Reilly's but don't remember which one.

Double check the hose connections at the heater core on the engine side. A leak there can go inside and act like a core leak.

I will check the hose connections. I have an ac truck. Just was not sure how hard it will be to pull out. Plan to pull the glove box first and look around. Thanks for the tips.
