Nice to see some pix of the dash. I can't take credit for the idea of putting the dash in. I wish I was that creative. I got the idea from somewhere on the board.

I've got a few questions.

1. Are you just tacking it in place for now?
2. Which column will you use?
3. Have you put the column in and lined it up? Make sure you use the same column that you fit.
4. Which seat will you use? Put it in along with the column and sit in the seat and get a general feel of how it lines up.

Suggestions
1. I also ran an alignment string from post to post measured the same height from the floor as a reference to keep the dash level.
2. Walk around the truck and view it from all angles.

Keep the pix coming we also need to see the other progress that you have made with the floor repair.

 that dash should be mandatory for all vehicles:lol:
did you know that they are so popular that they make a fiberglass dash that bolts into a 69 camaro, and accepts that guage pod?

Its just sitting there for now. I just finished getting it to fit good. I put it and out like 20 times. I'm sure you know the process. I want to put a tilt col. Any ideas on one I can get from the junk yard? I have my seats they're kinda like yours I think it's call 40/60 split. Craigs list special $50

Hey daverod,

What a concept.....

The dash was about the most impressive thing I remember about my old '59 Vette. I would have never believed a person could lay their hands on a orphan dash or make it work in a '66 pickup. My hat is off to ya and I bow to the master.

It's TOO COOL for School.

It's a 59 Impala. Check out Allans classic I got the idea from him. He's the real master. I'm just a protege. P.S I love my dog too. I just hope I get my truck done soon enough so he can go for a ride in it.

Re: Daverods project 66

I stand corrected, I can see now that the dash is made of metal not fiberglass. But when ya get to be my age, the vision ain't so good and my last two braincells don't always pull in the same direction....

I wonder thru life half unconscious and maybe my Sometimers was acting up when I viewed the photo.

BUT IT"S STILL COOL and I'm more than impressed.

Still Bowing to the Master...

You did tell me that you don't have any body work experience right. You can't tell it by looking at the pix. Nice progress.

I think I have this picture thing figured out. I was using two different cameras and it was mess with me. :metal:Now I can go work on my truck. I need to do some sand blasting and priming.:smoke: And alot of other stuff. Like about three years worth if stuff. I can't wait ,:uhmk: I love it. It's hard to make out be the second pic's of the rear inside corner. I'm not sure if the cab floor is suppose to cover this area or not? Anybody have a pic? Later Daverod

Just a finish carpenter with a new welder. I need to hook it up to gas though. I'm getting sick of grinding so much.

Thanks for all your help Allan. The dash might not have been your idea but you took the time to show us how to do it. Thanks again. Later Daverod.

3 rockstars, 2 flipper disks and one 40lb can of sand later. I got alittle done today. Tomorrow I'm going to rent a bigger air compressor. Rent it Saterday morning and you get it till monday for $25. I went to Lowes and picked up 3 bags of sand (100 lbs each). I should get all my blasting done by monday, total cost $50+ $50 for the sand blaster (Habor special). I can reuse the sand if I have to be I kinda sucks because I have to screen it. Can't wait till tomorrow I love blasting.:metal::metal::smoke: I better pick up some Rockstar too.:uhmk:

If you're using silica sand be sure to wear a respirator. Silica isn't very good to use for blasting either.

daverod 04-04-2009 09:15 AM

Re: Daverods project 66

Thanks Captain. Here I thought it was working good. It is cheap. I wore a dust mask yesterday today I'll do the respirator. I did most the big areas with the flipper. I only blasted about 40lbs of sand I was afraid I was going to wreck my compressor. I was wondering where all that blood on my pillow come from. Just kiddin. Later Dave

the open area inside the cab corner is how they came from the factory.

Cool build!

Where are you renting the compressor from? Good progress, all the body work looks great.

daverod 04-04-2009 03:21 PM

Re: Daverods project 66

I rented it from pro rental. They said it was 10 cfm. When I went to pick it up it looked just about like the one I had 5.2 cfm single stage. I rented it anyway, hooked the two together seems to work fine. They run all the time but I can only blast for about 10-15min then I have to fill up my tank. It only holds 40lbs. I just have to do the bottom and I done. So far it's taken about 3hrs and 300 lbs of sand. I'm reusing the sand so I have to screen it. Tomorrow I'm going to do the doors and hood. Have to see if I can get my frame done today also. Its funny I started with 300 lbs and now it's hard sweep up 40lbs. I'll have to check my rockers.:uhmk::uhmk::metal:

Re: Daverods project 66

Sift the sand while the compressor tanks are filling. That's called multitasking. The last car I had sand blasted had sand left every ware. Took me over an hour to vacuum it all out. Then I used a blow gun, and vacuumed again. If you don't get it all, your paint will get contaminated with dirt.
