I bought a 1986 Chevy C10 SWB custom deluxe when I was 12, Im 15 now... anyways heres the story

The boy that had it went to the highschool beside my school when I was in third grade, He left sideways everyday, and I told my dad I would have a truck like it one day. Well The boy got arrested for 2nd degree murder, we did NOT know him from Adam, But my mom decided to help him and his family, turns out he is the one with the truck I wanted, and he says its in his yard with a broke tranny.. I beg him to sell it to me and he wont do it! Then I over hear him talking to my brother one day while he is at our house out on bond. Saying that my brother could by the interior out of it... So me and my dad ask him again if I could buy it. He said yes, I want $450 bucks for it, It has a 305 H.O. in it with a broke transmission. We go look at it and it has absolutely no rust! My dad said "well son how do you plan on getting it, cause you know we ain't gonna buy it for you" I said " I will sell my dirt bike for it" dad said okay, so i got the dirt bike sold, and right after I sold it, He called and said "I need the money just bring me $230! we went that way I paid him and got the title and have had it every since and still haven't got it running..

I got a fourwheeler and traded it for a 1999 GMC c2500hd ext cab with a 5.7L 350 vortec in it .. I know plan to put that motor in the '86 theres only a couple problems though.. I just possibly rebroke my collarbone yesterday, and I dont have a job.. So the plan is to part the 99 out for money to make this all happen... Anyways enough talk picture time!!!

Re: "The Convict"

You may be able to sell the parts truck whole to make enough to fund your project. It'll be close but possible.

Wow! 2nd degree murder in high school? All I wanted to do in high school was go target shooting and work on my truck. Seems like you got a steal for just over 200 bucks.

Re: "The Convict"

Thanks guys, and the 2nd degree murder thing was about 2 years after graduating! But my arm is feeling way better today, I was thinking about trying to pull the motor out of the 86 today, Rusty76 thats pretty much the plan, is to sell whole or part it out after I take the engine and tranny out of it. I do want to keep the fuel injection on the engine once it is in the 86, so that should be fun...

I was trying to find the pictures from when me and my brother changed the driver side door and fender, because the truck had been in a "wreck" ... a deer ran into the side of the truck, and the previous owners beat the fender back out so the door would open. After changing the fender and door, me and a friend changed the core-support, but apparently when my computer crashed they went bye-bye! sorry folks!

I cleaned out the bed of the truck today, (make room for old motor).. Gonna finish that up tomorrow so I can start pulling the 5.SLOW, I (Halfa$$) mounted my tach ... first one is with it in (Park) , second is with it in (Drive)

good start, I remember driving my 86 in highschool. back then it was a junker, mismatched tires, front suspension was worn out and it had a 5.slow motor. now it is a mean machine, keep up the good work.

I swapped a 97 vortec into my truck recently, but since im using a 700R4 trans i opted to use an edelbrock carb and intake.

Yeah, I was thinking bout getting a tbi intake and tb, and putting on top of the motor, with 87 wiring and tank, with the vortec heads, do you have a build thread for you truck?

Looks like a pretty clean truck to start with. You got a hell of a deal on it!

that sounds like a good option but you would get more performance and tune-ability with a carb instead of 87 tbi. i would say run a carb until you can save the money for an aftermarket fuel injection setup.

my build thread

my build thread

I'm not really looking for performance considering the donor truck has 281,000 miles on it.. , I'm looking for more reliability then anything. But I've been thinking about that to, considering it might be a little easier..

I have talked to my dad, and have decided that I will be putting an aftermarket intake to run a carb on the vortec engine.

I was out in the garage messing with my truck and decided to pull the dash apart... I found a rats nest, I took a picture of it, but I'll have to upload it later, I plan on trying to snatch out the old motor this coming up weekend..

Re: "The Convict"

like an actual rat's nest or just a mess of wiring? haha

You need to get those old geeky terrible wheels off of it. I'll PM you my address to get rid of them. I'm a helper.

Neat truck, I had one that color.

Okay, a little info, my brother helped me pull out the old 305 yesterday, had it out in like an hour and a half! :metal: Now, I found a 67 327 .30 over, flat tops, and a 292 comp cam, elderbrock performer high rise intake, and holley 670 street avenger carb, for $600. I called him last night and he still had it.. I'm calling him again tonight, and if he still has it then I'm going to get it Thursday! After we got the motor out, I pulled her out of the garage and washed her for the first time in over 4 years! She looks good!

Hankster 02-10-2014 08:13 PM

Re: "The Convict"

The 327 is gone, now the only option is to hope that the 350 in my '99 is still good, Cause it might have a cracked block..

UPDATE: Found a mark V block 454, runs, Went and heard it last night.. still in the car.. has a quadrajet carb, and long tubes... We made the agreement that I could get it for $800 if he could keep his mini-starter and alternator. I'll be going to pick it up soon.. He is gonna start pulling it today. I'm excited!! Ain't no replacement for displacement!

Re: "The Convict"

Good choice and decent price on a running 454. Hope it all works out well for you. Did you get a transmission for it yet?
