71-72 Cruise Control question

I always thought that all 71-72 Cruise controls were dealer installed but have recently been told that they were still available as a factory option and appeared on the SPID in 71. I also thought I saw a 71 SPID posted with Cruise control on it. Anyone know any more about that? Has anyone seen a 71 with a factory chrome cruise control type turn signal lever? Thanks, Chuck

Hey Chuck - this is currently listed on Facebook in our area. though the pix shows it appears to be a pre-1971, it clearly shows the factory installed option on the SPID. It makes me wonder why it does not show up in the 71-72 list of options.

Re: 71-72 Cruise Control question

Cruise control was offered as RPO code K30 for 68-70 model trucks. 71-72 year models only offered cruise as a dealer install option and would not be listed on the SPID. Seems like I heard there were warranty issues or something?

Joshua, My understanding was always the same as yours, however, recently Roger Koop told me that he thinks 71s could be ordered with it on the steering column. Also, I got in an actual argument with the people at "The Parts Place" who sell a reproduction servo cable that is 20 inches to short for the 71-72 trucks and claim that they were installed at the factory and used the same short cable as passenger cars. They claim that only the dealer installed 71-72 kits used used the long (about 40 inch) cable. That is why I am asking if anyone else ever saw a 71 SPID with cruise on it.

In my experience, I would not take anything that "The Parts Place" says as gospel. While some of their stuff is good, a lot is the cheapest crap on the market, and when you present an issue to them, all you get is attitude.

Yes, that is really unusual.
