Need advice for catching grinding "dust"
I have metal particles all over my shop from grinding and cutting. I cannot afford a downdraft table, but I do want to build something that will keep most/all of the metal particles in one area. Grinding/cutting outside is not the solution for me.
Any ideas (links/pictures/personal experience) you can share? Thanks! P.S. This evening I caught my t-shirt on fire due to sparks from cutoff wheel, legit 6" flames! Scary but funny now! |

I have lit myself on fire with a cut off wheel a few times...
The Fabrication Series on youtube just did a grinding table build. He used a box fan and some steel. Seems to work well. I plan on making one once I have more space in my garage. |

One or more welding blankets might help. Hung shower curtain style as temporary walls. Make sure to have good ventilation or wear a filter mask.
One version: https://www.harborfreight.com/6-ft-x...ket-95015.html Watch those fuzzy places on your project jeans as well. They make great fire starting tinder. |

Re: Need advice for catching grinding "dust"
I watched the video and I think you could build it for half the price. If you have metal laying around you could do it for even less. For example, you could use 1" instead of 1 1/2 for the frame, and use expanded metal grate rather than aluminum for the top.

Simple, 2 10 dollar box fans. One pushing in, one pushing out. Doorways or Windows.
I watch my buddy get bloody noses all the time. He dont listen.... |
