Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Been looking for a decent priced 6.0 engine/2wd trans combo to go in my 67 C10. Found a complete cadillac escalade with the 6.0 and im assuming AWD 4L60-HD. Im not an engine/trans guy so this may be a stupid question, but what would it take to make the cadillac engine/transmission work without the AWD stuff, or should I keep searching for something thats not cadillac AWD... Thanks.

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Several options here....
Buy the Cadillac, break it down and sell parts you dont need....Sell the AWD components and buy yourself a 2wd trans and convertor from a wrecker yard.... It is possible to convert a $wd trans over the 2WD..upgrade the internals while you are at it... or just keep looking for a cut out engine and 2wd trans combo.... Choice is yours :chevy::chevy::chevy: |
Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Depending on the mileage of the 6.0 and the cost its easy to convert a 4wd 4L60E from 4WD to 2WD. Need a 2WD tail shaft and 2 WD tail housing. It does mean the trans will have to be totally disassembled but it's the perfect time to check condition. Any good trans shop can do it. I've done this a couple of times on my LS swaps because up in sunny MN finding a 2WD 4L60E is not easy. Most are all 4WD.

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Ok, If I took the 6.0 engine from an AWD cadillac, but used a 2wd 4l80e transmission from another vehicle, what would I need to do to make the engine from the cadillac work with the 2wd trans from other vehicle? Thanks.

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Check over on LS1tech.com for info on flex plates. Some need spacers to match the trans.
Your 2003 should be a 24 tooth crank reluctor. So one ECM for the engine and trans. If you haven't done this before I would buy a ECM and harness from one of the vendors. They can give you a basic tune to get you going. |
Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
A donor vehicle with all the necessary equipment that all matches is nice. You can find a 2WD 2500 pickup cheap and you can use all the goodies like fuel pump etc. all the nickel and dime stuff that adds up quick. I have not completed my swap yet as I sold the carcass too fast because I was moving, but if I had not I would be driving today.

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Also wanted to ask about the plastic intake covers. I've seen some same year model yukons or cadillacs that say they have the 6.0 engine, but the intake plastic covering is different, so I didn't know if owners were changing them out or just don't know what engine they have. So are the intake covers interchangeable?

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
I know some are...my engine came from a Cadillac and I changed it to a vortex cover..the guy I bought the engine from said he had people calling all the time wanting the Cadillac covers......

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Vans are a good place to get the entire package. The van intakes do not have the mounting location for the cover. Vans don’t have covers.

Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
Are not most caddy motors 6.2 liter ?
Low milage runs well I assume not expensive 4l80e can be converted by a good transmission shop Clinebarger is a member who builds transmissions in Texas you can ask him about converting to 2 wheel drive A 4l80e tranny from another vehicle will work to it does not have to be exact year but year range |
Re: Questions about 6.0 engine/Trans
My LQ9 6.0 came from a cad...I'm sure they went to the bigger ,higher hp ,engines with the later yr models..
