1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

picked up one of my all time favorites last week.

pickup is pretty clean for a driver. paint shows better in the pictures than it really is, interior is ok, the kicker is it runs like a top!

350 engine has 42k on a rebuild, tranny has a shiftkit, recent tune-up, alignment and tires. all power accessories work including the cruise.

has headers to a single 3" pipe, 10 series flowmaster, dumps just past the rear axle.

needs some minor things to be perfect, on the list as of today:

- blower motor
- hook up power lock actuator in drivers door
- dash mat
- tag light in roll pan
- 4-hi headlight mod with upgraded wiring
- figure out why my high beams aren't adjusted great like the lows

down the road:

- two-tone with raptor liner rockers up to lower body line(grey or charcoal with pinstripe)
- raptor line the bed in the same color
- lower the rear with a 1" shackle to level out the stance
- fog lights
- splash guards
- redo the exhaust with a better y-pipe, mandrel bends, and a different muffler

now for the pics

Was that the one from Blue Springs? Seemed like a nice truck. It was given serious discussion at our house. Congrats!

yes it is. it's pretty clean, lot's of "little things" that need/needed addressed. it runs like a top though, mechanically i don't really need to do anything with it. i could nit pick it apart all day, but for the money it was a solid driver.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

so far i'm really enjoying this pickup. fixed the blower motor, tag light, and sealed up the screws on the cowl. immediate needs are a new interior door handle on the passenger side and some bushings and pins for the hinges.

i've decided leveling it with a 1" shackle isn't going to cut it, so a 2/4 drop is in the cards this winter. the frame has already been c-notched so i could go lower, but on our gravel roads i need to keep some of my clearance.

i've been averaging about 15.3mpg with mixed driving. the same as my last 2009 Silverado crew cab, i can definitely live with that.

i picked up a couple of factory air cleaner bases to make a custom dual snorkel set up last week. really itching to tackle that project and ditch the open element.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

this weekend swapped out the thermostat for a new 195* and fixed some grounds that were broke in the process.

also foraged around in my scrap pile and found enough pieces to weld up a tailpipe with a chrome tip. what a difference that made, makes the 10 series flowmaster bearable. i'll get some pictures when i get everything washed up. weather hasn't been favorable for keeping a clean pickup.

i haven't started on the air cleaner yet, other than disassembling one of them for the spare snorkel. waiting for some super cold whether and cabin fever.

the 1" is gone, a few posts up i changed my mind, going to do a 2/4. that's the most i can get away with on our roads, plus this pickup will see some occasional trailer duty pulling a mower and other assorted small items.

My bad, I didn't read the whole thread. 2/4 will look better.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

well not much in the way of progress. with our cold weather i haven't been very motivated to fire up the heaters in the garage and go to work.

i did replace the IAC and CTS, cold starts and warms up much better now. i fab'd up some metric to sae conversion studs so i can mount the factory air cleaner and use 1/4 wing nuts. i have a fuel filter waiting in the box.

the air cleaner should only take me a day to fab up, i just need to get enthused and do it. then the exhaust will be the next chore, that's also a quick day project. i'm trying to decide on the lower 2-tone color, but a gun metal metallic gray seems to be winning out. once i get the 2-tone and bed liner done, it will get lowered.

OutlawDrifter 02-24-2015 05:09 PM

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

fuel filter swapped out, last owner had installed his backwards....lovely.

purchased a factory gm temperature/compass mirror (gentex 177, 2 line display). ebay seller sent me the wrong sensor, so install was put on hold, correct sensor arrived today. hopefully i'll get some garage time this weekend to do wire it in, with pictures to follow.

i put one of these in my K5 and loved having the extra info. it's always nice to know what direction you're going in a big city when you lose your bearings.

we've had a lot of company, and a lot of kid activities going on, this project seems to be taking much longer than i anticipated.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

so when i bought the pickup it had a large Kicker box and 10" sub behind the seat in the middle. this was taking up valuable storage space, so i built a box for an 8" Boston Acoustic sub i had in an old bass tube. not only does it sound better, but i have freed up some much needed storage room. the box was built per cubic requirement of the sub and a sealed box.

http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1zkptbgd.jpg

http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psxojdhktj.jpg

then i finally got the correct sensor for my temp/compass mirror and got it all wired up and installed. this should go nicely with the over head console i have planned.

http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8cgtgukf.jpg

so now i'm on to the next project of exhaust. i was planning on putting in a Flowmaster merge and a single Dynomax Ultraflow, but know i'm considering doing twice pipes with a Dynomax Ultraflow X muffler.....haha, this is really putting a wrench in my purchasing.

after that i will be doing a spring tuneup, followed by two-tone paint, and spraying in a bedliner. electric fans and 4hi HD harness will be in there somewhere.

Good/clean looking truck. Sounds like you have some good plans for it as well.

thanks for the kind words. just need some spare time to get this stuff knocked out! i work in the ag spraying industry, so my spare time is about to disappear.

made a quick trip to KC this last weekend to look at a different car for my daughter, ended up with 16.3mpg. not bad considering 30% of that tank was my usual dd'ing. and there were some 75mph interstate involved as well.

on the exhaust, i'm 95% sure i'll be doing the single. i would love to do the dual, but realistically its not needed and it doubles the cost of the project.

trying to decide between DJM and McG's 2/4 drop kits. both are similarly priced.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

exhaust ordered this weekend, should all be here be wednesday, decided to stay with a single pipe.

-dynomax ultraflow 3", 17221
-flowmaster y-merge 2.5" inlet, 3" outlet
-mandrel u's to fab everything up

exhaust is always my favorite part of the build. looking forward to making this one!

exhaust is done, for now.

here is what i started with:

http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...pse6fmiefv.jpg

http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/...psiie1o37p.jpg

this is just nuts...they took the little factory head pipes, put them up in the collector, and then slobbered in 20lbs of wire to make up the difference.

Re: 1995 Sierra RCSB 2WD DD

the old was a hodgepodge mixture of 2", 2.75", and 3" pipe.

the new is all 2.5" and 3". the dynomax ultraflow is exactly what i wanted. quiet at idle and cruise, and deep and throaty when you wood the skinny pedal. no pop, no rocks in a can sound, just deep and menacing.

after it was all put together i hit it all but the muffler with some hi-temp black.

well not much to report, pickup continues to surprise me. 16mpg average running the ac everyday. painted the chrome center caps satin black around the base to try something different.

here are the last single color pictures you will see in this thread. next pictures will be of the two-tone process.

Love the look of your truck. White is such a great color for these year trucks!

Thanks for the compliment, I see your OBS is "Carlos", mine is named " Ramone". White has always been one of my favorite colors on cars for some reason.

Mine too, especially since I have moved/lived here in the south.....way easier for this displaced Yankee to keep cool.
