1965 C60 Engine Swap

Hello all,
I am looking to take the 292 out of my C60 and put in a small block. Does anyone have experience with moving the right engine mount bracket back? Does it simply move back to the aft holes, bolt it down and you are done? Then, do the V8 shock mounts fit directly to the brackets or do I need something else? Also, does anyone have a line on the clutch bracket parts needed?

I hope that I'm not asking something that has already been asked, but I hadn't seen anything specific to the larger trucks.

Thanks,
Brian

292 has an odd passenger side( I think) mount.

You will need the 230-250 6 mounts or any SBC for 63-72 or clamshell mounts from73-80...there are aftermarket ones as well.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of the oddball 292 mount, I just wanted to know if it was as simple as moving that frame bracket to the rear holes or if there were any other tricks.

Also, if someone could take a picture of a clutch z-bar bracket in a V8 equipped C60, I'd appreciate it.

The medium duty trucks don't have a front suspension crossmember or engine mount brackets like the light dutys. Here is a picture of a '65 C80 RH engine mount bracket. You see it is riveted to the frame rail. The second picture shows the LH side as it mounts to the V8 engine. The parts book implies there are different brackets for Diesel, L6, & V8 engines.

Mine has a hydraulic clutch so can't help any there.

We just pulled the stock engine mounts out of our 65 LCF50. It had a SB in it. Not sure if there the same or not. But I can send over some pics when I’m atbthe shop this week.

Re: 1965 C60 Engine Swap

The engine is in. I modified the original right engine bracket as the 292 mount is shorter, higher, and mounted on the forward set of holes. It runs and drives but I am trying to find a shop to do the exhaust. The exhaust/muffler shop I usually use won't work outside on their big lift until it is above freezing (March or April).

For anyone who is interested, I'd be happy to pass along information on the build (part numbers, modifications, etc.).

Out with the .060" over 292 with heavy wrist pin scoring on #3 cylinder, in with the roller cammed 383. Should be about 2.5 times the hp and 1.5+ times the torque.

That's yesterdays engine. For that is cost to put a LS in in any thing. That would be the engine you should run that big of opening i use to own a C60 1965 with a 16 foot bed.

I'm looking to buy another one soon and convert it to a Motorhome with sides that extend out.

That's option one

option 2 is a roll off container truck but the container is a small 30 foot house that i can drop any where that has Pro pain tanks a water tank and a take for waste an still have 25 feet to live out of.with shower sm kitchen bedroom and AC. quite generators running off pro pain.I can drop it in front of a lake in front of mountains.its self contained for 2 weeks or longer.Cat get any more cleaner then that

container cost me $35,000 truck with all the up dates like LS 6.0 engine Alison 9 speed auto transmission with a option 2 speed rear end for hard climes,Disc brakes 22.5 tires air Ride AC power rack steering.Hydro boosted brakes with a PTO.Ya i had a few of these trucks and drove one for 10 years for a truss company.

The truck would cost me 2500.00 all truck updates from a doner truck chassis 5000-11000.00. and its be easy to build.

Having a house you can take almost any where and unload it and live out of it for up to 1 month. Then if you grow tired of the settings you can hook up to it pick it up slide it back on the back if your truck and off you go at 25 mpg go to all sorts of camp grounds.I be lighter then a Big bus pusher plus i can pull a trailer or a small Car or truck.

Think Big with these truck's.

Make them do things that will get others thinking that's my Motto

an a heel of a lot cheaper to buy.Yes I will have to stop at the weigh stations. But i would not care. The cops would think its cool.windows on a container. But have metal doors that cover them during transport.

A friend of mind has one and he's up in Canada.Loves it up there in the summer months.

His is a 1966 3 ton bob tail with a hydrolic lift ram for containers But he's running the Duramax
