Custom gauge panel ?

I've searched and have not seen what I'm looking for. Is there any reason I couldn't take a piece of sheet metal and cut it in the shape of the original bezel and put screw holes in it and use it? I was originally thinking of the bomber style gauges, but the I thought you could make any layout you wanted. If y'all have seen some pics some where please let me know.

Re: Custom gauge panel ?

Pardon me on jumpin in. One of my ideas was to design a custom gauge panel out of a glove box door. I have the door and all I need is about $1000 for the gauges. It'll be someday if at all but I felt that it was a good way to see that it matches the glove box and it still look like something perhaps from the period.
