1976 green c10 custom deluxe

Well I think its time to get a thread started on my 76 c10 so you all can can see it and I can document the work I get done on it.

I don't really plan on getting in to deep on it right away because of my limited funds and having other projects on my hands right now but I will be tinkering with it from time to time. If it seems at first that I'm not really doing anything, don't worry, I will start pouring money and time into it eventually. LOL

So anyway...
1976 chevrolet c10 custom deluxe.
2 wheel drive, long bed.
250 Inline six engine. (currently dead)
4 speed manual trany.

Stay tuned for all the good, bad and the ugly on the truck in my next post!

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

So first off, the good:
The truck has good paper work.
Green is my favorite color.

The bad & the ugly:
Engine has water in the oil...
Has rust holes in the fenders and bed sides.
Hood is garbage.(rusting out and has the typical kink in it)
A tree fell on top of the truck denting the roof a little bit.
The brakes do not work.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but you probably can see why this is not a over night project.

Nice truck, I'm partial to green myself. Is that Glenwood Green? Post a photo of the SPID Label

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

Not sure what green it is. It's a little faded so it looks lighter then it originally was.
The truck has been repainted at some point but I believe its the same as the original color.

Sadly My SPID is missing.

Well some good news, I found a build sheet under the seat that is still mostly readable.
I will try to get some pics of it and more of the truck up sometime soon.:chevy:

Forgot to say that with the seat out I found some money.
I have not got around to counting it for some reason.

All the above info was taken from the center of the paper.
If any of you want I can get the info from the top of the paper or try to get a good picture of it.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

I would greatly appreciate any help with figuring out some of the info here.
Some is plain and simple like "bench seat" and "250 L6" but some of the rest I just don't know.

The main thing that interests me that I see is the "7A 950 HD RR SPRING"
Was this for optional heavy duty real leaf springs or am I wrong?

The reason I ask is because it always looked to me that the truck had bigger than normal leaf springs for a c10.

Not really sure if I am right or wrong but here is a pic of the the leaf springs for you all to see.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

I forgot to mention that obviously this truck has very few options.(More like no options)LOL
No power anything.(Not even power breaks)

I guess for some people the 4 speed would be a plus over the 3 speed.

Some more pictures for you all.
I borrowed my brothers camera which has a wider angle lens so the pictures look a lot better then the ones from my camera.

This is why I'm going to replace the hood if I can.
The last pic is hard to see but its of the spot in the hood where its kinked and the cracking bondo where someone tried to fix it before.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

Not much of an update but I'm thinking about pulling the head off the engine sometime soon to see what doom lies under neath.
(trying to find the reason for the coolant/water in the oil)

Hopefully it's just a cracked head and not something wrong with the block.
(Even though I have a strong feeling there is)

It would be nice to find another running 250 to stick in but they are getting harder and harder to find.

Anyway, if I do anything to the truck I will be sure to post updates.

Neat truck. The options people used to go for are pretty crazy sometimes. Never could find a build sheet for my own truck, so you're lucky there! She sure is rusty, eh? Did it live in the PNW all its life?

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

They make some chemical testers for a cracked head issue that may lead you in the right direction. Otherwise I've seen several 250's that were removed for sale or even free pretty frequently. FB has a couple C10 pages that are good for posting for that kind of stuff.

You have a lot of work ahead of you but nothing insurmountable for sure. I like the truck and look forward to seeing the progress!

I always have wondered why it is so rusty being it's here in Oregon.
The build sheet says something about the truck being charged to Hamby Motors in Hillsboro Oregon and the truck has period correct yellow oregon license plates with Hamby Motors license plate frames So... I'm pretty sure that It's an
original Oregon truck.

Maybe it spent some time on the coast? I don't really know.

That #2 looks painful! V8 time or rebuild?

Not really wanting to go the V8 route at this time.
I love these old straight sixes and would prefer to keep one in this truck.

Thinking on either rebuild or another 250.

I even thought about doing a 292 swap but might save that idea for another truck another time!

Awesome truck! perhaps it's a heavy half or BIG 10...maybe that's why it has the bigger leafs.

I've never seen that interior color and I love it!

Thanks!
The interior color is one of my favorite things about this truck.

I have wondered about if it is a big 10 or just someone's custom job.
