Love those old big trucks Tim. I think this one qualifies...

1943 half track. Served in the war then went to work in the gas fields here in the San Juan basin sniffing pipelines for the next 40-50 years, before it was bought by the company I work for and restored in house. I think I’ve got some more on my phone. I took this picture in 2017 right after the owner/founder of the company passed away. He drove a half track in the war which was the reason he wanted to restore one. It’s got the original White slant 6 along with the complete original drivetrain, the 4x4 still works perfect. I have a lot of respect for the guys who drove these during the war. It had to take a whole lot of man to drive it with .50cal casings rolling down his back and no power steering to boot.

Half-tracks were my favorite war vehicle when I was a kid. They are so cool it's stupid. And stupid means really good these days

Are these big enough for you?

I worked on one of those small Oshkosh trucks one time. Funny thing is they actually wanted me to bring it back after the test drive? I thought they didn't want it anymore since they were crying how old and beat up it was.

Haha yea that’s true, it could be yours for $2,200 if I remember correctly. A buddy of mine owns it.

We have a welding & fabrication shop near here and the owner has a thing for the Oshkosh trucks. I'd have stopped in to shoot the bull by now but he has so many packed on the property there's no where to put my truck it seems.

At our ATHS show in September we have a guy who brings 40 or more trucks. The first 3 are 4wds of his and the last two belong to others

That International has been at that show every year for over 10. I also see it at Macungie, PA (ATHS National Show) Fathers Day weekend. I've never talked to the guy but I think it is treated special yet still worked a bit.

I confess my love for the IH 4wds from the same era GM Trucks I've been into. Going GM was a practical decision out of need. Now that they are old trucks to preserve I wouldn't mind owning one... or two three five

It’s funny Tim, when I lived in your neck of the woods, I almost never saw internationals, I see them somewhat frequently (5-10 times a month or so) here. I see both Scouts and Trucks. I love that black truck and the medium olive and white equivalent above.

Looking back, I'm pretty sad that I couldn't/didn't buy my stepdad's 71 IH when he was selling it in the mid-1990s :(

It was 3/4 ton 4x4 with 345 and 4 speed, and had an 8' cab-over on it so it hadn't been worked to death. But I had gotten sick and was going back to school and had no money or use for it at the time. I even sold my 1965 C/10 short stepside about that time.

I've been looking all over for a picture of the Dodge W/300 that our VFD used to have, but I can't find it. Probably on a hard drive from a dead PC. It was a real beast that could go anywhere and just push stuff out of the way. But the steering was bad and you didn't want to drive it very far on the highway. But instead of fixing it the state traded it out for a new F-550. The power wagon might have gone to a ranch or Hoot Colony for a while.

Saw this WWII era Dodge today.

Does the German bike count as a 4wd?

I guess the thread is titled 4wd, but the forum is 4wd & Off Road. It fits in. I wonder why they even bother with the front fork and wheel. They had the ability to turn track vehicles back then. I would think think that little old wheel would plow with both tracks pushing

They used to make those old double-track Ski-Doos with the single front ski.
