Dakota Digital/Classic Instruments gauge pictures?
 

Does anyone have pictures of a Dakota Digital or Classic Instruments setup in their truck?

I am nearing the end of an LS1 swap and while I can make do with the aftermarket tach and other gauges, a complete setup would be a lot cleaner.

My issue is that I LOVE the stock gauge setup, but even if I were able to do the S10 speedo mod (above my ability level, honestly), I still would not have a 7k RPM tach. Classic Industries make a gauge setup that is similar to the stock one, but I would really like to see it installed. Or, perhaps a few aftermarket setups would inspire me to try a different look.

Dakota Digital installed in my '72. Looks really cool at night. Can be hard to read in the bright daylight.

I don't have pictures yet as I am not done. I am using an extra dash glove box door, closed off the latch and am making my dash panel out of that with after market gauges.

dakota digital is the best. comes with all senders, wiring, and connectors to set up oil and water temp, voltage meter, and speed sensor switch from analog to digital. I love the fact that is has odometer, tripometer, tach with tach highest setting, and detailed instructions on how to perform every feature....including how to set your speedometer accurately.

Dakota Digital VHX with their PCM interface. The speed, RPM, Water Temp, etc are feed to the gauges via the PCM.

Great pics! I am starting to come around to the idea more. I suppose once people spend the money on a complete aftermarket setup they want the bling that comes with it, but I would pay a ton for a 100% stock looking, electronic setup with a 7-8k tach. :waah: The 67-72's have one of my favorite gauge clusters of any classic.

The VHX looks a lot better in your pics than on their website

Great close up pics of the VHX gauges, I could maybe see myself with a set of these.

Although it will be hard to let go from the stock set, but when switching to a modern 5.3 it just seems so much more practical.

You can send your factory gauges to Redline Gague Works ... not cheap but they will look stock... http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com/

I think I have decided on the classic instruments. I like the VHX's but I'm not sure I want such a modern look.

Bump for any more classic instruments pictures? I'm leaning heavily towards the G-stock ones (posted above), but I am thinking about a few others. I swear they would sell more if they had installed pics on their website for each one!

Thanks Randy! I have been looking for an installed blue/carbon VHX. Your pic is making my decision harder again... Again, those gauges look a TON better installed than on their website.

I`m in. I was hoping to do a new cluster set-up in my `67 sub before the summer. I`m still driving without a speedo because of the LS swap. I`m up in the air as to what style to go with and its not a cheap investment so i want happy with my choice.

If anyone else is interested in staying with the stock look, I just spoke with Redline Gauges in CA and they said they can replace the speedo internals with autometer electronic parts for around $200. They also said that they can modify a factory tach to read 7k RPM and make it look completely stock for a few hundred more :metal:. He also mentioned converting the ammeter to voltage output.

The only downside is the 8 week turnaround time, but I suppose I could get by with my Torque app for that.

I am also getting a quote from Classic Instruments, I'll let you know what they say.

Either way, this should be a good bit cheaper AND I get to keep the stockers :mm:

Even with the turnaround you'd keep all your stock guages and have new gauges for around the price the dakota digitals cost. Just have to eat the time it takes to restore it for them.

I think so.. I have not noticed it is jerky... I have driven ~400 miles with the gauges and I like them more every day...

I think all are great choices to go with. That is cool that redline can mod the gauges! The VHX do offer a nice modern look. Great pictures in this thread. They look really good at night.

In my continued search, it seems there is another option.

New Vintage USA seems to be pretty new on the block, but they have some very attractive gauges and do custom work. This one was from a diesel swap in a 72

I'm sure its not cheap. Their "67 series" isnt too far off from our stock ones and they really nailed the muscle car style IMO.

Another update, Dakota Digital just released a Cable-X competitor for $300 that converts digital signal to mechanical for your factory gauge. This was the answer I was looking for but now I've decided I need a 6-7k RPM tach :waah:
