71-72 doors: plant variation in paint break along window frame?
2 Attachment(s)
Trying to confirm what may be plant or painter variation in white around the window glass frame for 71-72 doors.
Both these Flint pickups show white on both the outside and inside of the frame. I’ve seen other doors where the white paint isn’t continued inside the door frame. Curious what other examples are out there of where the paint breaks on the frame in two tone 71-72s and where the pickups. |

72 doors where the white is confined to the outside of the door - I don’t know where the pickups were assembled.

Pete, FWIW my 72 Fremont truck is painted like your post #2, even though a custom two tone.

The hugger doors on my K20 came from a St. Louis truck and are orange on the inside. The other set of spare Ochre doors which came off a 71, Are ochre on the inside. Unfortunately I don’t have any idea which plant those came from.

Pete, Blue is a St. Louis truck. Does the glovebox look familiar to you? LOL

Thanks for posting. Looks like Flint at least differed from Fremont. Fun stuff.
Seems like a lot of effort to mask off the inner door versus painting the whole frame. I’m still mulling over which look is an overall better fit. |

72 Fremont truck. Main body color on inside door frames. Re-spray as original. Already painted the new white and taped up. You can see the stock med bronze inside the door frame.

What about earlier trucks 67-70? I am contemplating painting the roof of my truck white and wonder what would be factory, or if it different from plant to plant like the 71-72s?

My 71 K1500 is a Fremont truck....body color on inside of window frame. However, the shop that painted my truck, incorrectly painted the window frames all white, inside and out. The doors looked so good, I decided to leave well enough alone and didn't have them correct their mistake.

The body looks like swiss cheese. I was looking at it today thinking "what a shame". It's so original I keep it around for reference. I have had it for years, but I don't take anything off of it. |

That’s too bad, that would be one heck of a truck.
