I would like show off my latest acquisition.

1971 K10 Suburban Custom Deluxe.

I do have a couple questions about the truck that I can not seem to find any answers.

1. Was the top of the dash painted to match the dash pad color?

2. What kind of upholstery was SPID code 660?

Congrats on your new old 4x4 burb! But, I think I have already said that some place lol.

The dash was often painted to match the dash pad, and it was done in a matte finish. This was done to prevent glare on the windshield.

The interior code, I do not know other than it is simply a parchment interior.

660 Parchment is white in color interior. If I remember correctly, a lot of the interior could be Saddle(tan) with white too.

I believe Gm called it "sandlewood".

Does your Burb have carpet or rubber mat? I read that Custom Deluxe Suburbans came with carpet. Mine has a GM sandlewood rubber mat.

Since the original owner used the truck to camp in Baja California maybe he had it switched out. I don't know.

To my knowledge carpet was never an option on the 67-72 Burbs. I may be wrong? My truck still has one piece of the sandlewood floor mat under the rear heater in the cargo area. Carpet is my only option in sandlewood so that's what's going in.

The forward dash (and vents) were painted a flat color called Dark Sandelwood. The Ditzler color code for this 23375. It is a flattened version of the steering column paint Ditzler 23374. Since it is often hard to get trim code paints you might need to color match the unfaded portion of the column. This would provide both gloss for the column and a 0% gloss flattened for the upper forward dash.

Carpet was included in 72 Suburbans when optioned with the A52 Custom Deluxe vinyl trim (parchment only# upgrade or the Highlander Plaid trim upgrade. The section#s) carpeted depended on how many seats were ordered.

Since you need custom made seat covers to be correct and a correct color full mat, to my knowledege, isn't reproduced you might consider going to the all vinyl covers to more correctly match the intended carpet.

You are correct trim code 660 covers all the 72 Parchment/white trim Suburbans combinations except the C10-20 Highlanders.

However the interior accent trim is Dark Sandalwood and not the Dark Saddle as would be found in say a 688 Saddle trim coded Blazer or 616 & 621 Pickups. Compared to the Ditzler codes posted above the Dark Saddle codes 23519 and 23453 (flat).

So I am checking out other threads and it appears if the A52 Custom Deluxe vinyl trim option was selected, the Suburban got vinyl seat covers, carpet AND wood trim on the door panels(?). Perhaps SSTim can confirm. I always wondered how the wood trim found it's way into a Suburban with cheyenne/super options.

My Suburban didn't have any wood trim at all. The further I dig into this truck the more I find out how much hasn't been modified or changed.

Want to say that is correct on the 72 Suburbans but at the moment I cannot confirm specifics as I have done about zero research in that direction. Since the A52 was clearly a big upgrade to the Custom Deluxe trim level, incorporating the wood door trim as well makes sense. After all there were no badged Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super trim levles offered on 67-72 'Burbs.

With the cloth Custom Deluxe trim your truck was coded for I would not expect the wood trim. My 72 CD Burb barn door didn't have it either. Just lots of green!

From the limited pictures and quality I would agree there is a lot stock about your Burb and pretty much all I'm seeing is the aftermarket carpet and seat covers. Both were/are common enough upgrades.

A lot is going to depend here on how stock you want yourtruck to be and if the amount and time are doable.

The seat covers can be made I'm fairly certain, at a price.
A big cost fractor is if you have or want all three seats. Three covers ad up fast and even if you don't have but want a third I have that cover made at the same time to assure a match and later availability.
To get a really good idea of what the stock seats looked like, take a look at the Highlander seat that just sold. Save for the insert fabric this is how your seats looked new.

Problem is the vinyl floor mat. While you could and may even want a carpet upgrade a workable replacement vinyl might be out there. Need to dig about later for the link but I'd found a company that made them a while back if you are interested in a more "as delivered" presentation.

What is the knob on the left of the dash cluster (just above the brake release handle)?

Is that a manual choke?

The knob on the dash above the brake release is for the rear auxiliary heater that was dealer installed but still a GM part.

My dad put manual choke onto my truck around 1973, using the cigarette lighter delete. I would like to put in a cigarette lighter but want to keep the manual choke. I am thinking how nicely manual choke would work if it was mounted about where that knob on your truck is.

Ten Ring, If you look close on the right hand side of the gauge cluster you will see the missing knob for the manual choke. This is on my base model '71 K10 Suburban.

I was completely ignorant of that, thank you guys!

I thought that in 1971, Chevy went to an automatic choke and that's why the manual choke disappeared.

I've gone back and forth with my dash plans. I really want a temperature gauge but I'm unsure where to put it. I keep thinking the best place is part of the 7 gauge factor cluster.

I want to keep my manual choke but dad used the cigarette lighter delete for that. It's a little bit of a reach for me to get to it and I'd like to have a lighter where it was supposed to go. I don't smoke but I'd like to have a place to charge my phone on a long drive.

If I could find an original, 7 gauge cluster, with manual choke or a throttle knob I could use as a manual choke (if that possible, I'm still new at this), I'd go with that. I know the '67 to '68 dash cluster had a manual choke knob.

Thanks again for the pics and information. If anyone has a decent (no cracks) 7 gauge cluster with a manual choke slot, drop me a line. (I'll pay extra for the 6 cylinder tachometer).

I will get you another and better picture. You'll need to drill a hole for the manual choke in the cluster trim. The piece in my dash is just a factory add on trim piece. Unfortunately, I don't have anything more than what is pictured.

I don't want to drill a hole in my factory bezel. That says "manual throttle." Now that could just be what they called it, although it was actually for a manual choke.

I have tried to buy a manual choke bezel on here but have not heard back from the seller. I know he was going out of town for a bit, maybe he's still busy with that.
