What Muffler to use? No drone wanted.

What kind of muffler have you guys used that doesn't produce the loud droning noise at low speeds. I want one that flows, sounds good, stainless and oh yeah.....cheap. Go figure. I was thinking about THIS or maybe THIS.
recommendations? My exhaust will be 2.5" dia.

I've run most of them all - Flowmaters, Magnaflows, Dynomax. My favorite is the Magna with 18" tubes on the end. Right now, running dual 2.5' BORLA mufflers with SS cut tips - not tubes. Fairley loud and crisp on acceleration and low on cruise.

There might not be a droney-er muffler than the flow 40, since you specifically asked for one that didn't. Or, did you mean drone at high speeds is OK?

The magnaflow is a straight-thru design and will be somewhat loud with an 11" case. My chevelle has those in about that size and it sounds mean, no drone despite dumping right in front of axle.

I'm new to muffler sound terms.. and wasn't sure what "drone" is.

I had to drive a shop truck with Flowmaster 40s and the drone at highway speed (around 2000-2500 RPMs) was unbearable for me. I personally run Borlas on my hot rods and mufflered race cars, but I have ridden in vehicles with MagnaFlows that didn't have aggressive drone at sustained highway or lower RPMs.

I specifically DON'T want that annoying drone that is associated with some I have driven and ridden in. Whether it's at low speed or high speeds. Don't get me wrong I want to sound good when I give it some gas.

I don't have much experience with modern mufflers. That's why I'm asking here.

That loud roar that fills the cab will noise when you let off the gas at low speed and apparently at high speeds in some cases. Not heard when standing on the throttle or at idle.

I have heard really good about the Borla but they are pretty well out of my price range right now.

I just found THESE That are even cheaper. Not sure what the difference is unless they aren't embossed with Magnflow logo?

I heard borla is very nice sound not that loud sound and/or the Magnaflows. I use to have flowmasters 40 dual on the 350 and it was loud. My lake pipes where louder haha.

Flowmaster super 40's w/crossover.....deeper tone than 40's, no noticeable drone

Dually leaving Show, Cameron Park CA Oct. 2011..............raced that white '71 Camaro on the way home 110 mph.

I currently run FM series 70's with an H pipe, the tail pipes exit behind the rear wheel as well. At average highway cruise speeds, I have a drone that resonates in the suburban cabin. It's not too terribly bad, but after a while of listening to it I want it gone.

For the '70 K10 SWB I plan to put in the Dynomax "Hemi super turbo" mufflers, since it is a short length of pipe and I want it some what quiet on long drives.

I hear you. I would try to go with a straight through type of design rather than a chambered if you're looking to minimize drone. The other thing that I would recommend is whichever muffler you do end up going with, mount them as far back as possible to keep some of the resonance (which creates a lot of the drone noise) away from the cab.

Dually's sbc 355....... Flowmaster super 40's idle + rev

Re: What Muffler to use? No drone wanted.

I have Hooker Max Flow's on my 4.8 in my 03. Pretty quiet in the cab, but a nice deep tone when on the throttle, no drone. I'm still undecided on the 6.0 swap for my '70 though. Somewhere I read that Moroso Spiral Flow has a nice sound but I haven't done much research.

Re: What Muffler to use? No drone wanted.

Interior noise has a lot to do with the type of vehicle and exhaust exit location .....a burb will have considerably more problems controlling interior resonance than a pickup. The large interior cabin space will amplify the sound coming from under the vehicle, where as a pickup, the sound is exited well behind the cabin space and is less of a problem.

Dynamat at least the rear of your cab if resonance is a problem, and the whole cab floor if possible. The noise inside my ride is noticeable but not even close to being annoying .....no noticeable drone at all.

You can listen to a lot of sound clips on magnaflow's website.

I like the 67 malibu clips.

They look cool.....every manufacturer claims "newest cutting edge technology" ...... and their product is always the best; haven't heard enough about these.
