Good Offer for a 67 4wd 8ft stepside?
3 Attachment(s)
Found a cool pretty rare truck I thought I would make a offer on, 67 4wd step side 8 foot bed with a straight six and a 4speed what do you guys think is a decent offer what is the truck worth as it sits? He says he would sell it for the right offer. Has 300k on it. Found it in the middle of no where north Dakota by my farm.
Thanks. |
Re: Good Offer for a 67 4wd 8ft stepside?
Just some thoughts and my $0.02 on your questions.
Myself, I tend to shy away from making the initial offer on another person's property, be it a vehicle, parts or whatever. It is the buyer's usual thoughts to go low and the seller's usual thoughts they want to go high. Invariably this usually gets to be an issue with feelings in a wad so to speak. I always tell the seller I don't feel right about pricing another man's property. Have him give you a beginning price point and then the negotiations can start from that point depending on his starting price and how that figures in with your expectations of purchase costs. Before I even get to that point on a vehicle I verify that the seller has a clear title in his name for the vehicle. Make sure the VIN on the title matches the VIN on the vehicle. On these trucks it is VERY easy to swap the glove box door where the VIN is on the SIPD label. Am thinking there is a "partial" VIN with the last numbers of the VIN on the LH frame upper near the steering gear box. May have a lot of crud that needs wire brushing to clean off for visibility. Without a clear title, to me it automatically makes said vehicle a "parts only" sale. A parts only sale brings a lower price as there can be a considerable amount of hoops to jump thru if intending to title the vehicle for use. I realize that some states do not require a title on vehicles of a certain age, only a Bill of Sale so your situation depends on your particular state DMV. Those two points said, it looks like the truck is in pretty fair condition for it's age. No pics of the interior and engine bay but.....depending on how badly a person wants something it's generally nothing that a LOT of time, $$$ and beer can't solve. I proved that when I restored my '71 long bed 4x4, LOL. Good luck with your negotiations and possible purchase. |

IF it runs and drives AND the title and VIN numbers all match I would say $2,500, possibly up to $3,000 if the interior is not completely ragged out and frame not rusted out. More than that, tread lightly and depends on how bad you want it. Cab supports, cab corners and rocker panels are very prone to rust out. Cab floor against the kick panels is another area of concern as are roof and cab areas.
If not running, no title and some SERIOUS rust issues in mentioned areas to me it's getting closer to being a parts truck. If you can get it titled thru a bill of sale and some footwork and effort -- $1,200 - $1,500 If unable to title in your name it's a parts truck and in my thoughts maybe $800 max. That is if it has some parts that are still usable. I may be all totally off with these thoughts as have not bought a project truck in some time. I know values have gone up even on parts trucks but if planning on a restoration be advised, IT AIN"T CHEAP to do. Good luck and let us know how it works out. |

I probably wouldn't go over a grand on it. I would let him throw out the first number. If he has been watching the auctions lately, he may think he has a gem.

I agree $800-1,500, and let the seller go first.

Re: Good Offer for a 67 4wd 8ft stepside?
1500 max it is, If I buy it ill post up some better pictures. From my research they made 500 8ft stepsides with 4x4 in 67.

In '67 were they still NAPCO conversions? Or were the 4x4's straight from the factory?

that old truck has been beat pretty hard, ranch and farm trucks are always rough. offer $500 and if he says no let him know it's a standing offer if he changes his mind and then walk away. He might counter offer for $800. long steppers are a hard resell.:chevy:
