battery box
has anyone ever relocated their battery some where other than under the hood if so where and how did you do it I would like to do something like this

I am also in need of a design for a battery box. Removed mine from under the hood. I Shaved the hump on the inner fender too. I am going to put the battery box behind the cab coroner on the frame. Then ground the battery to the frame and then ground the motor to the frame.

That sounds like a good idea any body else have any ideas

The street rodders are using a battery box that mounts to the outside of the frame and drops down for acess.I would check out "Street Rodder" mag and see if I could find the ad.It might be what you are looking for or it may give you an idea.

You can look at bigger trucks in junk yards, many are equipped like that stock.

I have seen it mounted under th box on the side of the frame rail and they just had one of the wood boards on a hinge in order to access the battery

Truckin' magazine was doing a restore called "Project Old School" I think it was a 66' fleetside chevy. They relocated the battery to the frame behind the cab, they also did the aluminum fuel cell where the spare tire is suppoed to go. You might check that out.

If you do relocate the battery towards the rear..I suggest useing a ford style solinoid by the battery. run a 2/0 cable from the + battery to the solinoid..then a 2/0 to the starter. Run a # 6 cable from the unswitched side of the solinoid to power the rest of your system. Jump the starter solinoid from the small "s" terminal to the larger 2/0 terminal. reroute the original"s" wire to the "s" terminal on the ford solinoid. This system works very well. It really improved my whole electrical system..also makes turning over my 12-1 engine easy as can be.

Painless sell's a kit that would be pretty easy to duplicate and summit has a killer sealed aluminum battery box for drag racing that you could use...
