71 2wd Dual Exhaust

Hey Gang. Has anyone had luck with a Heartthrob Exhaust kit on a 71 1/2 Ton 2wd Suburban? They list kits for trucks and 4wd Suburbans, but not for a 2wd. An email to Heartthrob got the response that they don't know if either will fit since they haven't prototyped a 2wd. All help appreciated!

I'd see if they have a kit for a LWB 2wd PU.
The dimensions are almost identical if I recall correctly.

Check JC Whitney.

The tailpipes may be different due to the fuel tank. I remember a board member awhile back purchased one of these kits for a 2wd Burb and had some fitment issues.

Probably not worth the trouble then, eh? May be time for a trip to the muffler shop for a fab and install. Any suggestions for mufflers? Anyone think an H or X pipe is worth the cost on a currently stock 350?

JC Whitney sells the complete kits, some come with the exhaust dump in front of the rear wheels and they have free shipping also.
Check see if they have any i n stock.

Re: 71 2wd Dual Exhaust

I wouldn't bother with mail order exhaust systems, always felt that they are there for the folks that don't have access to a local muffler shop.

H pipe is always a good idea I think.

Mufflers are very personal to the owner/driver.
All the name brand mufflers out there are high quality, it's just up to personal preference on the type sound you like.

Currently I am running dual exhaust off rams, H pipe, and Flowmaster 70 series mufflers.

It's quiet, but I am planning on making it quieter in the future. Since I run low gears, at highway speeds the system roars and has a bit of a drone.

I'm actually contemplating going with a Y pipe design, with a big muffler just like it came from the factory.

Since I plan on doing a long distance road trip soon, the FM series 70's are going to be replaced for something more softer/mellower sounding to kill the drone.

I've checked for 'burb specific kits... none available or suppliers can't confirm that a 4wd or truck kit will work without major mods. 3drburb - did you use a kit from Whitney? I'm not finding anything specific to our suburbans.

I'm looking around at local shops to have duals installed. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the input.

Check out Heartthrob C -10 Systems part #HEA8181430. That is the one for in front of the rear wheel dump.
I picked up this setup from JC W and mocked it up on one side but I did not complete it because I will be installing a newer engine soon.
I hope this help but do your homework on the setups before you purchase one.

Re: 71 2wd Dual Exhaust

Ryan,

Any luck with your dual exhaust search? I've got a '69 2WD that I'd like to finish out, too. My stock hangers are still in place, and show that it would've had dual exhaust originally with the 396 that came in it. I've got an LT1 in there that currently goes through a Y-pipe, but I think I can easily modify the 2.25" drop pipes coming out of the exhaust manifold to a dual setup. I just need something that would fit the original path exiting behind the wheels. I went to a local exhaust shop and they were scratching their heads trying to deal with the trailing arms. Once I decided to nix the crossover pipe, it occurred to me that someone probably makes a stock replacement (unless that's 2.5") with all of the correct bends pre-made. Did your 350 engine have a stock single exhaust system?

It's not my truck but I would hazard a guess that they are 15 ×7's or 8's.
