corporate 10 bolt front differential

I have a 1984 chevy 4x4 k20 diesel with a corporate 10 bolt front differential that i'm trying to rebuild. I just wanted to replace the bearings. It's funny how they don't have any shims. The carrier has thick washer on both sides. The pinion has a oil slinger or you can say shim behind the larger bearing. As I try to assemble the pinion back into the case and trying to tighten it, I don't feel the crush collar pre load. What I have is some play. I going to re seat the race. Has this ever happened to anyone? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1344738013

Pick up a shop manual.
You will need to set the correct pinion depth first.
The thick spacers for the side bearings were select fitted at the factory. You will need to replace them with standard spacers plus shims.
Even for a qualified tech with the special equipment setting gears up properly is a job that requires attention to detail.
