Big Block Engine Swap Question

I had searched and didn't find this for my particular swap. I thought I had seen this info. on here but just isn't coming up for me.

I am getting together the parts to swap a 454 from a 1998 GMC Suburban into my 1984 GMC Jimmy. Will the engine mount brackets that go from the frame down to the crow member work from the 1984, if not from the 1998? I have the complete Suburban so I am going to keep it around till the swap is done.

Also, if anyone has experienced any issues with this swap I would love to hear about them while getting ready to do this thing, so I can prepare.

Re: Big Block Engine Swap Question

I'm sure others that are smarter than me will chime in before long. Do you plan on changing any seals, gaskets, parts before installing? I changed the rear main seal since it was so easy to get to. New oil pump, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, timing chain set, timing cover gasket, valve seals, basically anything I could get to without taking off the intake or heads. Painted it Detroit Diesel green, I like it. It's easy when it's not installed.
Good luck. Take some pics. I have some finished pics, but not in progress pics.
Mine was installed into a 66 C20, not a 84 Jimmy, so I can only offer general advice that I'm sure you already know.

Re: Big Block Engine Swap Question

You do not have to change the engine mounts in your '84 Jimmy. The engine mount brackets (clamshells) on the '98 454 should drop right onto the engine mounts that are in your '84 Jimmy. Although I would suggest installing new engine mounts. The frame brackets for the engine mounts in the '98 Suburban will not work in your '84 Jimmy. The frames are completely different. Actually now that I think about it, the engine mounts might be bolted directly to the crossmember on the '98 Suburban.

Thanks Captainfab! This is the info I wanted to know. I just wanted to be prepared to build some if necessary, or look and see if there are any premade on the internet somewhere.
